That is based on the premise that less restrictions are better for an economy. That isn't necessarily the case though. If people are scared to go out it doesn't matter if places are legally allowed to open or not. Also sustained m

We on this forum complain to Apple on a daily basis. Nothing ever happens. I don't see evidence that Apple's decision making is affected by what their users think. It took them three years to fix the keyboards even when they were

Theoretically Java should be more memory efficient because it makes fewer guarantees and can move memory around. The advantage of Swift/ARC is not that it uses less memory per se but that it has a lower high water mark because memory

I'm not sure that's correct as the safety data had been the last to come in. You still have to run a large phase 3 trial to collect safety data, challenge trial or not.

It depends on the ages of the 39 people. If those were 39 eighty year olds, that would be seriously impressive. If those were 39 twenty year olds it would be expected. There's no reason to expect that the 39 would have a similar age di

We've subsequently learned that even young healthy and initially asymptomatic people can become permanently ill from so called "long COVID". The ethicists were right to say no.

Tether is meant to be pegged to the dollar. It is supposed to be printed in high quantities if high quantities of tethers are necessary to maintain the peg. Otherwise the peg would break and one tether would be worth more than one dollar.

Cost of living is a swindle, at least when it applies internationally and cross culturally. If you want to live like a local in Jakarta (to use an extreme example), you can do so very cheaply, $180 a month for a room, eat rice for breakfast

Vaccination is not without risk. Sometimes, but rarely, people have bad reactions to vaccines. The ethical case for vaccinating against rhinoviruses isn't really there, even if it were viable to do so.

Intelligence is a complex interplay of nature and nurture. There is no way to test only the "nature" component, it's akin to unmixing a pot of purple paint to extract the red and blue. A lot of IQ test questions get easier th

The new ARM Macs have "secure boot". I don't know how it will work exactly but I assume it's something that stops you from booting a different operating system. If not, I'm sure that's in the pipeline.

Apple has benefited immensely from developers building apps for their iDevices. Apple in their infinite wisdom decided that such apps must be developed on a Mac. Making apps is not super profitable, most apps don't make enough revenue

We are getting towards the point where we will have to boot up into a full screen Linux VM because the outer operating system is too laden with crap like this (and secure boot).

What I'm saying is that just because the iPad Pro is good at video encoding it doesn't mean that it is capable of running a windowed OS with real multitasking. For that you need more RAM. The iPad is built for a specific workflow

Half a million data points sounds like a lot but it's smaller than a 1k texture. RAM for integrated graphics is VRAM too, just to render to the screen you need a ton of it, for every open window.

We're talking about RAM. RAM usage is a direct function of how many apps you have open at the same time. For an iPad that number is a lot smaller than for a laptop.
