As many people have pointed out, an iPad is not a big iphone. Kudos for the developer for being open to learning design from other apps. And for caring about the UX.

When there's a consensus democracy is easy. When there's no consensus democracy is a mess. When it's messy people complain that it's failing. But the messiness is really a reflection of society and/or the media cove

There's no technical reason not to do that. The only reason to move it to some other storage provider would be to save on egress fees, but I'm sure that 95% of the content is never touched by humans after it's posted. It may

Back then people would have gone to the doctor’s office for the injection. They would have done that because it wasn’t quite pay-for-service back then.

The thing that people don't realize about AWS is that the hard part, and the thing they do really well, are authorization and billing. Every call is authenticated. Changes to authorization ripple across AWS in realtime. If you revoke a

Realistically speaking, nobody cares about mobile security. For IoT, well, who cares? And it's been well-known that GSM/GPRS encryption has been useless for decades. People just want a cheap pipe. If they care about security they

Why wowza instead of using backblaze or a some other cheap service? Backblaze has no egress, pair it with fastly for a super cheap cdn.

My neighbor used to be in procurement at Intel. He said that the chip guys told him that TSMC's prices were impossible. Just one more data point.

It's probably a valve failure. Valves have a hard job, since they have to survive in extreme cold and heat and not deform too much, if at all. SpaceX is probably one of the few companies on earth that can detect metal fatigue well. I s

Totally untrue. Network admins will often disable traceroute responses because security. Edit: the less someone knows about your internal topology the better. Security through obscurity does work.

Your data is valueless when it's by itself. That's the fundamental mistake they made with HIPAA.

FYI the way you get around this legally is to set up a nonprofit and funnel all your pricing information to that nonprofit. Then everyone uses the non-profit's data to set prices. You can also use aggregator websites to check pricing.

DD was great at the beginning, but over time they moved to value-based pricing. It's sad but understandable that all the good monitoring tools move up the food chain.

Ideally you would design your architecture with the realization that every architecture will become inadequate over time. So basically, design things so you can rip out various parts of it when the time comes. I'll probably get a copy,

Cheap boxes are cheap nowadays. It really depends on your risk tolerance and skillset. If you have the skills, then lowendbox.com (or hetzner) is your friend. You most likely will never outgrow your first box, because you probably won'

If the logging call is in the critical path then logging data is probably critical as well. After all, the fastest call is the one you don't do. If you're writing telemetry then that's different. But if you're using logg

One thing that isn't mentioned is that the physical layer at the time was 'flat' ie: a network had a shared wire. That means bus arbitration (to prevent collisions) was a big deal. Token ring solved that by passing tokens, wh

You misunderstand. The point is you have to go backwards to find a keyframe, then render forwards from that. Going backwards might be hard because if you structured your code in certain ways you may not be able to go backwards efficiently.

To do this well you need to keep the old frames around...or go back to the previous keyframe and re-render. That might be hard if your design is playback-optimized.

I used all the major mac tools: think c, codewarrior, and mpw. I think the money just wasn't there. The PC market was the corporate market, and they were the ones who had lots of developers.
