Why would that deter people if they aren’t directly paying for it? You think it would force companies to police it themselves? I think jail time makes sense, and for them to be directly sued and the company to a lesser degree, pretty much w

Google was amazing at one point in time. In search of profit, it got worse. Maybe Kagi can withstand it, but I don’t see much difference between one company and another.

Not only are the search engines promoting newer content but they are also (at least Google is) penalizing sites with “old” content [1]. Somewhat related, it’s outrageous to me when a university takes down a professor’s page when they are no

I don’t see much value added by a manager that you described. What you are describing is more of a product manager role.

I agree with you, and I don’t understand why some of these small blogs on niche topics even have ads. How much are they making a month? I’d be surprised if it’s even $5 a month for many of them.

I sort of agree, and I do think it’s possible depending on the team. But unfortunately developers can be too opinionated and get focused on low priority things.

I disagree with you. You are stating it, but you are not giving reasons. Managers who weren’t developers tend to not be able to manage the team. They can’t help with or understand the technical decisions made. The non-technical managers ten

I know what you mean, when git was gaining popularity I do remember people saying that branching being better/easier in git. I do think it was overstated back then and just not true. I haven’t used svn in years as well, but I think it

That tends to happen a lot with git and other fads in the tech industry. See the discussion here where people are defending how git has the misleading message of “ Your branch is up to date with origin/master.” A lot of rationalizatio

Making an svn branch is not a big deal and you can certainly create a branch in svn and scrap it. It seems that the git hype of 10 or so years ago was very effective.

I completely agree with you and fail to see why people think otherwise. It’s just so arbitrary and against actual learning to make a test hard to get a certain spread of scores. Depending on the material, breadth, and depth the teacher woul

The solution isn’t to censor. How does one decide what should be censored and what should be allowed? We are refining what we know and altogether dropping wrong ideas for new ones. What is the goal of censorship? There was a time when those

I think that is good advice, though I am not sure what you mean by saying life is poetry. I will also add that one should be aware of what is happening during the different seasons, such as particular flowers blooming, animal migrations, et

I agree with you. There’s also the additional cost of maintaining more than one language which makes the balance that much harder to do. I could see utility in the high level language to do something with the result if it’s not computationa

Thanks for giving some context on the matter. If the base language is not capable to provide a way to implement those, then that makes sense. I do like the idea of having the base being small but still capable to allow for these features to

Thanks for the summary. Unless I am missing something, this seems like a pointless argument that the scheme community has. Why not just create a library separate from the standard and call it a day?

Yeah, Google’s statement seems obviously wrong. They say they don’t tell people to delete old content, but then they say that old content does actually affect a site in terms of it’s average ranking and also what content gets indexed.

It doesn’t, especially at the introductory level. Sure, at a certain point, it would be needed, but that would be for someone wanting to become a statistician, not the general population.

I don’t see how that is a logical conclusion. There’s such a thing as opportunity cost and interests. If someone wants to learn something, they should, but the problem is forcing those to learn something when they would rather learn somethi

I think learning other areas of math would better serve most people. I think logic and probability then maybe combinatorics and statistics would be much better than calculus and especially trigonometry.
