A really interesting and honest write up by Don Syme on the goals and trade-offs required to get a functional language implemented on .Net, in pre-open Microsoft. I use F# for anything critical and/or complex. It's a parsimonious

I wonder if the fact there will be no effective antibiotics by 2030 will influence people's decisions to put foreign bodies under their skin.

I believe Apple licensed tech from Xerox, but Xerox didn’t understand its worth. A bunch of ex-Xerox people later joined Apple (Larry Tesler, Alan Kay).

I'm not sure how long ago you tried Apple Notes but I've use it all the time now after trying many apps. I don't have any sync problems and it has good support for images, pen input, tables, styles etc. For anything more tech

It's about depth of field, i.e. getting that beautiful out of focus effect for backgrounds (bokeh) to isolate your subject. And also about megapixels. Shooting with a portrait lens on full frame e.g. 85mm at f1/4 at 2m from a subj

What are you looking for? You have native 35mm, 50mm, 85mm at f1.4, not to mention the very sharp 55 f1.8. You have the 16-35mm and 24-70mm at f2.8. Sigma have just announced their range of primes for E-Mount. I use the Canon 135 f2 and 35

This appears to be an artefact that occurs with silent shutter mode in some cases. Regular shooting mode doesn't have this problem. I've read about this but I don't know the cause.

While Sony's sensor technology has been great, until last year there were significant issues with the full frame camera line up that prevented many people from switching: poor battery life, difficult controls (no joystick for moving fo

What's concerning is that the network used dropout, which I thought was aimed and making networks less brittle (i.e. reduce overfitting).

You can disable Face ID by pressing the power and volume buttons at the same time. They are on either side of the phone. Faster than the multiple press method and more discrete.

This is very brittle: it works really well on the pre-canned examples but the vocabulary seems very tightly linked. It doesn't handle something as simple as: 'the patient had no pain but did have nausea' Doesn't yield an

Great collection. My favourite editor for notes/code is Quiver. It does Markdown, WYSIWIG, code (via ACE editor), MathJax and even markup for diagrams. It has a cell based approach so you can mix and match different sections if you don

Why don't Flow or Typescript count? Our team uses TypeScript, mostly C# devs, it's been great. The main issue getting definitions for some less common libraries. We haven't been using immutability.js because of the back and f

React + Redux has plenty of great principles behind it: functional approach to front-end dev, understanding the importance of one way data flow, components, immutable data stores etc. Also the separation of data from UI that allows renderin

It's nice to have the Keras front-end for TF - less boilerplate etc. I don't think there would be a reason why Keras couldn't sit on PyTorch but I can't see any work on this. Keras is very productive unless you are doing

It's easy to forget that at that time Apple was pushing AppletTalk and the TCP stack was a separate installer, so if it was over the network the network would have been the local AppleTalk network, not a global server. The OS wasn'

I doubt self driving cars would rely on a single network on a single image source (I hope not!). Robust systems expect that some of the inferences can be mistaken (noisy). That's why you want to run multiple sensor types into different

For our team React + Redux + Redux Saga + TypeScript has been a great way to develop our complex SPAs. We do use MobX selectively (dynamic forms), but the big benefits of the combination is the ability for our team to work productively with
