I'm building a spiritual successor of the dBase/FoxPro family of languages with modern ideas, what I hope become a better alternative to Access/Excel (so, not just the base lang, but the UI builder + Data engine. Just askin

I love Rust, but rust being slow annoy me to not end, MUCH more than his complexities. I have worked in Pascal(Delphi), that is a bit more useful in catch issues at comptime. Being able to iterate quickly is also a way to fix errors witho

The Pascal family could benefit by a bit more of brevity, but I trade the syntax of it to C-like langs like Rust any day. They are not that less verbose at the end: Is only in the "small" that look compact.

Honestly, the best way to input dates is to have 3 fields (with the labels of y, m, d) and let the user INPUT the date.

I work in a relational lang as hobby. I have seen as many sql replacements as I can, and most commit some or many problems. The biggest one, IMHO, is they stay as constrained to be "just a query lang" removing any hope to be usefu

Even then, you have better options (main one: pascal). P.D: My main gripe is not about why C was made how is made. Is that it STAY like that until now. It must have been deprecating dangerous stuff long ago...

One branch that was super-popular in the day was the dbase family (I work in FoxPro, it was THE dream). Working in Fox dispel many of the weird limitations of sql (and BTW, you can use SQL on Fox alike linq, is first-class). The #1? You can

Yeah, but then why not make it the only one? One reason is that proc-macros can "see" the syntax outside the point of declaration(or enclosed). This means you must do macro_rules! {struct.... } instead of declare the struct first

Sure, neither Rust. But the things that make Rust safe are not that much slower. Macros, Generics, all that syntax, all that lang complexity (ie: Not just the semantics but the way is surfaced) have a bigger impact.

Macros. This is a major pain. I wish it get more attention (and hopefully: How about a SINGLE way to do macros? Like zig?). Serde is another killer on compiling speed.

No. But is very surprising when you see Rust how high-level is as language yet it target system programming . One major philosophy aspect of Rust is that (almost)everything is explicit and you build abstraction from the bottom.
