Passing file handle is different - a well written library would check and handle errors, but pointer to buffer - and I don't expect a library to "try" and "catch" (even if it's possible) cases. Would strlen do

WIth mmap you have to be prepared to handle unexpected page fault errors due to corrupted volume: Unlike standard read/write, where one can handle the issue, now it can happen anywhere the memory is mapped - your code, third party libr

Also, why not have some sort of graceful degradation (well kind of), like: OS Boots, loads CS driver, the driver loads some new feature/config, and before/after new recent thing ("runtime flag") marked whether it success

Relatively how expensive is to capture the callstack when doing sample profiling? With Intel CET's tech there should be way to capture a shadow stack, that really just contains entry points, but wondering if that's going to be use

Without reading the whole thing, and with modern C# in mind - would that be "auto-struct" of a Java-class, without say so explicitly?

I don't want to deal with maintaining a pure Linux laptop, and I don't want to be limited by OSX/Windows (for different reasons). Chromebook, by far, is the easiest to get good amount of linux for development without much iss

I only wish for more powerful Chromebook - like 32GB or even 64GB of RAM, 3-4TB of SSD - maybe proper accelerated GPU, maybe discrete one.

Can you explain further? Yes, it takes more effort to express, or rather to create .bzl files to express these dependencies (e.g. let's say we have Python using C/C++) - but once it's done it gives a higher level (BUILD) lang

Sorry I meant to say is that inlines are now individual functions, so the amount of callstack entry items is going to grow. But then, if you capture the stack (using sampling), and catch for example ThreadContext switch while CreateFileA is

On Windows, I tend to often see callstack frames going down a lot, especially in C++ debug builds where inlines are no longer such. On top of that if you have work-stealing task scheduler, that if your current thread waits on I/O reass

None of these are realistic, if you have to use third_party software, because that one may require them, and then all bets are off. The only way to enforce this, if you are in full control of the source code you are in - for example the Gam
