I think it would be great for Julia to have a mechanism to formalise/enforce interfaces. I thought a bit about it lately and came to the conclusion, that something like C++ concepts (minus the clunky syntax) would be a better fit for J

Playing advocatus deii for Julia, I guess you could write code, where all function signatures only contain concrete types. Then the ahead-of-time compiler would work the same as for a C++ program without templates and dynamic polymorphism

> I suspect that four of five Roman Catholic parishes do not have bells to sound, or anyway don't sound them. Why do you suspect that? At least here in Germany almost every church, Catholic or not, has bells, that are rung every ho

I really like "Julia, the programming language" and had a great experience using it on the few occasions, where it made sense. But whenever a colleague asks me, if I can recommend it, I have to say "no". The crux is, th

A bit of trivia about that: In Germany, which had a rather vivid nuclear energy discussion for decades due to historical reasons, nuclear energy proponents often use the word "Kernkraft" (literally "nuclear power"), whi

I had a similar problem, when I was working as a PhD student a few years ago, where I needed to match the voxel representation of a 3D printer with the tetrahedral mesh of our rendering application. My first attempt in Python was both prohi

I'm using meson, since I started a new job a few months ago and so far I find it to be absolutely delightful, especially compared to cmake. There is almost always only one certain way to do something, which makes it easy to learn, but

Coincidentally I used PyJulia last week to call some numerical code I translated from Python/Numpy to Julia. The actual translation was straightforward and done in under one hour, but I needed an additional day for fine tuning and prof

I had a look at the demo folder, that's just a typo. It should be: jl_mat_mul = Pyfunc(mat_mul) which makes a lot more sense.

As someone coming from the physics side and not so much from the Computer graphics side of physically based rendering, I have high hopes for differentiable rendering as a general tool to extract knowledge from light-based measurements. Most

As an example: My father (living in Germany) installed a 10 kWp photovoltaic system in spring last year along with a 10 kWh battery. In the summer months he was almost self-sufficient with that, as he could use his own solar power at night

Speaking about transition of graphical applications from one device to another, I think this is a rather difficult problem in itself. The only project I'm aware of, which tries to enable that in a seamless way, is the Arcan display ser
