Beside what people write about ICUs, this lets time to buy and build other things like masks, build up the infrastructure, get organized help from the army etc etc. Also, while a vaccine is far, medication might be nearer. So buying time is

I would expect doctors are able to make kinda accurate diagnostics on damaged lungs and have already lots of data on recovery prospects. Might not be 1% exact, but they are probably not on the wrong side either.

My point was that, in France, where you have a strong social net that offers everyone to subsist, have a place to leave and health insurance, is not preventing people from protesting for more rights - at the opposite.

They actually cost a lot of money to businesses, but no one cares to track to show the ugly truth. Europe has a lot of data showing that going to work sick ends up costing much more than staying home, thus this is a irresponsible attitude -

If that was true there would be more protests in the US than in France. I think the exact opposite of that is true.

Indeed, the contrast is low and probably not very accessible. Their design system should consider that so it’s not up to some designer or developer to decide case by case during crunch time.

Do you get a “power trip” when criminals go in prison? I know it’s a whole different level, but have you considered some people genuinely think that this is a bad thing (albeit a minor one IMO as the post explains) in our society?

Totally agree. It’s also about respecting the food you have and not being wasteful as a principle. Plus it can bring new recipes to light.

In my family, I’m often surprised by what cool idea they have to reuse most food left over by combining multiple left overs or a left over with something else fresh. It opened my eyes that this is not a fixed state but what you do with it.

The ads I see on my paper newspaper are often better “targeted” than the ones I see (or block ;) ) on their website. Of course this is not data, but the parent post has an interesting stance.

Many places where people bike a lot like Netherlands and Finland have bad weather. So obviously it’s not correlated. I remember biking a lot while studying despite bad weather (even snow and ice). I think that’s more a fear of newcomers who

2K watches are made mostly by machines. 20K is where you start having a substantial part of the cost being handmade finishes. The dealers cut is similar in percentage.

Hacker News could easily set a max-width on the problematic items. Every designer (and so should every web developer) knows that the sweet spot for reading is around 60 characters and a column of text if readable between 40 and 60 character

Don’t understand battery too narrowly here. It can be an artificial lake where you pump up the water from below, or a train full of stones that you pull up a hill. Many countries like Israel have black water containers on top of every home

Do you have data for a Tesla completing a single Nurburgring lap at full speed? AFAIK they failed each time so far https://insideevs.com/news/323053/tesla-model-s-fails-to-lap...

There used to be a time where ads weren’t synonym with endless privacy breaches though. Lots of content nowadays is niche, and as such can get well working advertising without much tracking.

Tell Tesla then, they cannot make a full fast lap of Nurburgring. Actually, most cars can break so much so often before they lose performance because of overheating or even burning brakes.

Social media and mobile are as tightly linked as highways and cars. Instagram, Twitter and all messengers are inherently mobile, not just in their design but at their core. Their pattern derive from mobile usage, as opposed to desktop patte

In that case, that’s what is called “graceful degradation”, progressive enhancement goes the other way around (code for older browsers, then provide cool features for newer browsers). Like desktop first vs mobile first.

You can't "control", but you can create an environment that's better or less for healthy eating. Look at the BMI difference between Japan and the US. In the US, the lobbies for processed foods have long been very strong,

Isn’t the only car insurance mandated the one that pays for others? I.e. it is not about you but about making sure that, if you damage someone else or their car, they will get paid disregarding of how much you have on your account.

Most developers “doing design” don’t only miss some basic skills, like proper need analysis, but plain don’t have the time to deeply analyze the problem. I know the “try it and see if it sticks” methods is popular right now, but monkeys won
