OK, then we have different understandings of what makes a language. You said: "the fact that very few people code pure javascript (...) goes to show how much people like it!" I argue that using jQuery does not change the "pure JavaScript"-n

jQuery is big and important and has lots of features that you can use or decide not to use. However, if you decide to implement simple animations yourself in a situation where jQuery would have been a fit, you are likely wasting time and ef

Sorry, your point about jQuery is off the mark. jQuery is a library (not a framework), and if you are not using libraries you are most likely doing it wrong, in any language! jQuery does nothing to alter the language, so people using it are

Having English as a second language I am always reluctant to make a screencast. My spoken English would be distracting, if not for the brokenness then at least for my lack of confidence when speaking it. This looks like a great alternative!

I misread your comment several times before I consulted Wikipedia to find some clarifications. It might be the case that others need the same clarifications as me, so I might as well post them here: * Quake was released June 1996 * Quake II

This is definitely subjective. I recently replayed Doom 2 with a couple of friends, and for us this is definitely a legendary game. I have lots of fond memories of Doom 1 as well. While I also spent a lot of time with Duke Nukem 3D, I never

The value returned by POSIX time is commonly said to be "POSIX time" or "UNIX time". This names a time system other than UTC. In my experience, programmers don't seem to confuse these two systems. I have seen good programmers be surprised b

In the "Advanced" tab in Opera's preferences it is possible to uncheck "Reuse current tab". In my opinion it would be a much better default to have this unchecked. With this configuration change "Right click->Search" will open a new tab

Unfortunately, I cannot claim that I have tried it, but I know Opera supports remote debugging. You get to run Dragonfly on your desktop and debug whatever's running in Opera Mobile on your device. There seems to be documentation here: htt

As a counterexample, let's consider Google's blocking of Opera. Google routinely blocks Opera when rolling out new stuff. I kind of get it, because of your point 1. However, they sometimes offer a "try anyway"-link and sometimes not. The ti

Well, the thing is two cores running at, say, 800MHz burns less battery than one core running at 1.6GHz. So you get the similar (but not quite the same) processing power for less battery power. You also get less heat dissipation. Great cloc

The point of cramming lots of cores into mobile devices is apparently to reduce battery drain, not to gain processing power. This might or might not be new to you, but to me, short battery life is still an inconvenience :) (Random corrobora
