Creating your own base boxes is actually pretty straight forward since Packer. Maintaining them is admittedly a bit of a time sink though.

So true. Being from the UK, I was used to seeing UV of 4 or 5 on the weather report. I assumed this was a 1-10 scale. Then I got to Australia and UV is 13 or 14! The US EPA scale runs to 11 [1]. [1] https://www.epa.gov/sunsa

I've never seen that option before - I stand corrected. I'd be interested to see how having it switched on affects performance. Also I expect there are still few guarantees about data loss in the event of failure.

RabbitMQ does not persist messages to disk. A common mistake with RMQ is treating it like something of a database. You would need to run RMQ in HA mode with multiple brokers to have any chance of not losing data.
