As in most other European countries social security, health and retirement is provided on a subsistence level. I think this is what differs from EU to the US. EU is great for subsistence seekers while the US is much better for aspirational

French employees are generelle low paid in cash. however, a big part of the compensation is through labor protection - something that is not worth a lot to a software developer. currently, France had a serious issue with brain drain. softwa

My take is that default styling is already bloated enough. Every-time I need to start out a new project, the first thing I do os to reset default styles. Also, we already have a situation where different browsers have different defaults lea

It seems excessive to allow USD 14k spend on a newly created account, or and account with no prior big spend. If I was Google, I would not allow it without explicitly raising limits or increasing quotas. Otherwise there is a big chance ther

you have protections around these things in most places, and especially in Denmark. also, renters I am referring to are commercial renters (so definitely not the cheapest ones).

Yep, right now the cost of money is more expensive than renting a house at 80% financing. So on top of this, if you decide to buy a house at 500k, you lock up 100k and still pay more in interest + HOA than ren for comparative apartment.

I am in Denmark where the real-estate market is a bit different. The sane way to do it now (with the expectation that interest rates drop): 1. Variable rate short-termed loan - these are adjusted to the index called CITA. 2. When the rate i

They do say the long real-estate cycle is 15-18 years. 2007 is 17 years ago. While I don't like that type of rule of thumb, I can clearly feel why it makes sense. I am on the brink of buying my first home as it is. And having seen peer

The problem is when speculation is a (large) part of you compensation. You might not do what's right in your work. The same is true for the real-estate market: When a corner of the market (eg. apartments in the city) outperforms the re

Can you elaborate a bit more on this? I hear that you think it is scary and there are undertones that you think it is unreasonable. But sure, you must have some proper arguments to support why you think it is scary?

It is the case in much of EU also: In Germany most of the healthcare is covered by the employer. In Denmark, where I reside, you get an extra coverage with most (tech-)employments that provides access you wouldn't have otherwise.
