Depends on your use case, for mine it works fine and feels similar to Termux. The performance of the iPhone 15 also probably plays a part.

Yeah, it’s good but iOS also has iSH so the experience is pretty similar.

I agree, although having bought a Samsung Tab S9 for this reason, it too seems to be very limiting. Samsung Dex is cool and all, but the app selection on Android is worse than iOS and I couldn’t find a way to run Linux since Linux on Dex wa

Yeah they really should be using Stripe to authorise the card payment and then capture it when the app is successfully installed

Does anyone here have any experience using https://github.com/pdtpartners/nix-snapshotter ? I build a lot of Docker images using Nix, and while yes it’s generally more pleasant than using Dockerfiles, the 128 layer lim

I got the M1 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM for £730 second hand off eBay as a backup laptop shortly after buying an M1 Pro 14”. Then when I travelled for a few months I only took the Air with me, and it’s incredible how I could pretty much do a

To clarify I meant having /nix/store on some kind of persistent volume rather than copying it at the start and end of every job, that indeed would be painfully slow and extremely inefficient. I don't know if this is possible

I don’t know about CircleCI but if you can persist the /nix/store then that will give you the performance improvements you’re looking for. I use Gitlab CI and with self hosted runners I can make sure the /nix/store is pe

There's also https://github.com/tomhicks/react-audible-debug which has been around for some time, I think it has a clearer sound for identifying excessive re-renders, but it's definitely a little more annoyin

True I guess, although one would perhaps expect a fibre network to be more reliable and stable than a cellular network. Why would a large ISP allow customers to bring their own ONT if it means higher chance of problems on the PON? It doesn&

Ah ok, in the UK our only widespread DOCSIS network strictly forbids 3rd party modems for the same reasons I mentioned.

A good fibre ISP will have a separate ONT and router, so you can still pick your own router. The ONT should be considered part of the ISPs network and not tampered with or replaced. Fibre with an ONT (PON) is a shared medium with other cust

This looks very similar to Vanilla Extract, the API of Panda is exactly the same DX I had using it with React, but I still ended up jumping on the Tailwind bandwagon because I find it just gives me a slight extra boost in productivity and s

This looks pretty cool, thanks for the pointer! It would be nice if there was a way to create a stream using this where the materialized data doesn't actually get stored on disk in a materialized table, instead it just streams changes

One thing that I think would be awesome is if there was a Postgres extension for streaming queries, where you could join tables with millions of rows and when any of the upstream data is changed you’ll be notified of the delta changes. I tr

Yeah similarly I'm using Nix to template K8s templates and I've never looked back. Helm is great for deploying 3rd party applications easily but I've never seen the appeal for using it for in house services, templating YAML i

Moving /nix to another location would require a lot of package authors that make the assumption of /nix/store being a constant to rewrite their packages, an effort that doesn’t really seem worth it.

Wow so much negativity here, I just can’t imagine not having Yarn PnP for my project with 15+ packages all in a monorepo. It’s super easy to patch 3rd party packages, fast at installing and adding new dependencies, and it plays so nicely wi

But RSC is how you do server based apps with React, and they’re clearly sticking with React. Sure you can render to static markup without RSC but then you have to do a lot of work to mix server/interactive client components, RSC makes

I was using Yarn 1 before, and it was a nightmare. Slow and painful to package applications with lots of dependencies and to deploy. So yes I did migrate to Yarn 2+, and it made CI/CD much easier and faster.
