Your experience is such a compelling argument for libre software and hardware, that I'd stop using Facebook and Google right away, if I still were using them.

I think Ubuntu did a lot of good to the community. Debian was rougher before Ubuntu was a thing.

I agree as to that it sounds moronic. Maybe it even is. However, think about a levee about which you know that it will not hold when a storm comes, but people don't believe you and are not even willing to listen to you. Would you think

I've also become a cynic. I welcome national services to lose control of their systems and their data. I have had countless talks with people here in Germany about why computers and therefore open and libre software and hardware are

The performance is not the relevant part. If it's fast enough, it's enough. Then other things matter. For me, that "then" is already reached.

I agree. You mention two problems that I both agree with. First, LaTeX wants to be so much, that it can be difficult to get simple things done. Second, LaTeX's tooling is abhorrent. The quite useless error messages are just one example

I don't want enthusiasm either, I just don't want opinion. Given the facts, I can form my own, thank you. Journalists' job should be to provide all relevant facts and present it in a neutral way. The further any news goes fro

Yes, it was too strongly worded. I should have said "sometimes" instead of "often". For example the first paragraph in [1] really doesn't go down well with me. It seems so negative, which I call unwanted opinion. Al

Thanks for this information. I didn't think about checking replacement parts warrenty rules, silently assuming they were the same. That they are not smells fishy.

I didn't even know Phoronix 10 years ago, and not even 5 years ago, and I understand the critique voiced over it. They often basically just repeat source information and add unwanted opinion, like an overengineered RSS feed merged with

There is a difference between law on one side and ethical rules on the other side. Some people disagree with some law and consider it a result of unjust lobbying or outright corruption. Then, breaking that law is not something I would consi

I also have made bad experiences with evolution. I wonder why major distributions still use it as their default client. Is there some good reason for that, or is it just neglect?

I don't agree with that one. I think though the state should takes measure to ensure people can pick stuff without any DRM. Sure, banning imports of DRM might help in that, but there are other easier ways like subsidizing products that

What would make you think that 4.5 years of service of an electronic device is unnecessary? I have multiple devices that old or older and I hope very much that they will last way longer.
