Thank you for pointing these out. The i.MX7 and i.MX8 SoCs seem very interesting, but I have a hard time finding information about available SBCs, mainline Linux and official Debian support. The only SBC I found is the Nitrogen7[0] and it d

As a desktop computer for day to day use? Can I run it without non-free software? Can I natively install Debian with mainline Linux to actually get work done? Can I connect a monitor and other accessory?

It's still Intel hardware. But besides that, does the Macintosh work without blobs and mainline Linux? Can I install Debian on it and have stuff working? I'm just tired of uncooperative manufactures.

The Librem laptop are not an option because they use Intel chips. Buying Intel products supports and finances their current way. They did not even address the grave accusations. There is no way I can give them money.

I found the answer here: http://richg42.blogspot.de/2014/05/the-truth-on-opengl-drive... Nvidia is strong-arming developers not to support Mesa because they are afraid of open drivers. Nvidia is afraid of Mesa.

Thanks for that link. I must say I deem it maybe not completely outdated, but at least worthy an update. But I'm in awe of the what one can read there. "This vendor[Nvidia] is extremely savvy and strategic about embedding its devs

Then why many games do not support the open source AMD drivers on Linux?

Yes, and because of the above mentioned, I am sceptical about the consequences. I don't consider it likely that the new GPU will work without proprietary firmware nor that the documentation will be better than AMDs now.

I am sceptical about the consequences for user-controlled computing. AMDs GPUs have made a positive development in the past, while Intel is unfriendly to users control over the hardware they buy.

That is cool. Good for you. I don't want to steal anything from Intel. I just want a way to opt out of ME and its siblings. You seem like a troll or a bittered person.

That is not true. If a company does not follow the GPL and is called out, they can simply do what the GPL tells them to do and the case is done.

You are confusing things here. It is not about releasing fruits of labor. Intel is screwing us over and it is about stopping them.

Programs that require Google Services just plain suck. That's like a game that only runs if you have a mouse from Logitech or a document viewer that only supports printinf if you have a HP printer. Both would just suck and be shitty, b

What are the reasons the hardware the microcode is running on isn't directly exposed to the user? Why shouldn't we teach our compilers to generate code for the lowest level possible?
