Auto-updates can not do data collection without new consent, under the new regulation. Consent must be given for each collection and purpose individually. Service cannot be denied for refusing to give consent. I'm not saying sueing M

With the new Privacy Regulation in the EU, and since Mozilla is distributing FireFox globally, would there soon be a way to sue Mozilla in the case of privacy invading updates?

I've been looking for some time now for an alternative to Firefox. The integration of Pocket was the big red flag that made me start to doubt Mozillas intentions. - My focus is not on performance or compatibility, but usability, privac

Linux is just the kernel. GNU as a name for the system is okay, while Linux is arguably not. GNU/Linux is just a compromise for those who insist on naming Linux. Also, from the projects website, we have "GuixSD is a distribution o

This is why I don't like the web in it's current form. It's not anymore about freely sharing information. It is about creating uncopyable 'experiences' and programs in the web. I don't want services I may or ma

Nope, personal experience can lead to hate in individuals, or questioning their hate. People form opinions based on the examples they see. If the examples are bad, there is no need for any propaganda to instigate hate.

It would be unfair if smaller countries had as much representives as the bigger countries. The problem does not lie there. If the representatives decided in the interest of the country they are from and not in the interest of everybody in E

Paradox is doing most things right, not like some of their competitors. No pay-to-win or other ingame buys, but optional DLCs, that actually enhance the game, and constant development and care over years for their games, and excellent multi

I'm not concerned. First, with git we can look who introduced the bugs. Second, the worst-case you fear would still imply development of the project, which is good. After all, you can't maliciously introduce a bug without changing

The internet does not make countries obsolete. Who thinks that is inside a bubble that can burst horribly painfully. The internet is a way to share information very fast and very cheap, but that's it. There are still countless of other

So, you say Python is totally missing the point and is wrong? Even when encoding videos, performance matters. Also, that optimizing compilation is important is no reason to not work on i386. This is a point Rust needs to fix. And not only i

If a finite state machine is in a deadlock, i.e. a state that directly leads to itself no matter what, you trivially find the cycle. That is only a trivial example. Another example are programs that never jump backwards. There are many othe

You are talking about the worst-case. The worst-case is not very insightful. How probable is the worst-case? What about the average or median case? How hard are the formerly unsolveable problems in practice?

An implication of your observation is that all the classical impossibility results, like for example the halting problem, concretized to the machine at hand become solveable theoretically, and maybe even practically. The turing machine abst

I don't see how it necessarily must be TANSTAAFL. Maybe Rust is indeed suited for being zero-cost in memory and speed performance compared to C, but the toolchain isn't there yet.

You are correct about the speed, but the short response combined with the unjustifiedly overly general attack of the authors knowledge is unnecessary.

It doesn't only make you think there is a better balance, it also makes you think harder whether the task at hand needs this kind of complexity. If this is all hidden under abstraction, developers might not care enough.

Is Rust available on the platforms Linux targets? The kernel community won't react fondly to tries to restrict the target support. I'd expect a justified rant with lots of insults at intellect and sanity, if need be. Is Rust well-

Let me thank you for providing the excellent write-up. I eagerly wait for news from lowRISC in hope for a SBC with general purpose Linux support. This would open up the hardware in general, and thus be a major step in a good direction. I do

This has nothing to do with nationality. Everywhere and up to this day people excuse themselves that they are just doing what they were told/forced to. Snowden is sadly the rare exception, rather than the rule.
