The fact that one cannot delete or modify the history of a feed one "owns" is a show-stopper. Of course, people can always mirror stuff, but that is no argument against modifications.

My problem with GCM is not the implementation on the client, but the fact that Google sees traffic. I don't want Google to see my data nor my metadata.

I assume there is no hiding from Google unless you black-hole their IPs. Also, don't let an Android device with links to Google be near you. It'd hard to ban Google from your life even if you want ti. I think governments should he

XMPP is legacy, and rightfully so. With it, by default, communication is in cleartext, there is no way to ensure message reliability and integrity without privacy implications, and multi-device support is arkward.

I'm disappointed that it offers no offline functionality. I'd like to download the map and do all the pathing and rendering locally, because I don't want to transmit over the internet what I'm looking at and where I want

Even assuming you meant Librem, where can I buy a Librem device? After sending the money, I have a tolerance of 21 days until holding the device in working condition in my hand. Any offers?

You can show your content to the people who were interested by putting it on your website. It's that easy!

I also think it's a pity that Canonical dropped the Ubuntu phone. Clearly, there was big interest in such a device.

With free software and properly documented hardware, you would never need to miss an OS; you could just use it.

A promise not to touch data is not a deletion. If you can recreate the private data from backups, you did not comply with the deletion request.

I just read something that makes me rather angry. For ejabberd, message reliability is a premium feature that is not supported in the free version. The fuck? https://www.process-one.net/en/ejabberd/protocols/

How do you deal with lost messages? When clients have unreliable connections, we experience message loss with that setup (ejabberd + conversations). Actually, I'm dumfounded that that can happen at all. Lost messages are trivial to det

The article raises good points. One important aspect is missing though; the reliance on web services, SaaS, and the like. Free software is not enough. We need free software that runs locally and offline.

Let us not give up freedom for security. A reasonable solution would be to make it sufficiently "technical" to unlock the device, so people can't be easily tricked into it.
