Other than cash, how do you give money over $15k without being nailed by the gift tax? Keeping as much money in retirement savings seems wise as those are exempt from liens.

That’s a great web site. Worth the time reading through his posts. I spent the last two weeks laying out a PCB with iPhone-like density; now I hate laying out PCBs. It’s therapeutic until you spend too long on it, then it’s drudgery.

Yes, but even bonds don't keep up with inflation, and you need enough principle to ride out the dips. The "safe" return is considered to be 4%, which is $20k on $500k, so you'd be dipping into the principle even on tha

Even a poverty level wage (for family of 4) is $25k/year. So $500k over a 20 year retirement sounds like a lot, but it’s not.

I remember seeing some of these as a kid in the 70’s. Great stuff. Also a lot of art by Chris Foss: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1848566980/ref=ox_sc_saved_im...

Were these homes bought with cash or loans? People don’t have to sell if they own it, but if they can’t make the payments, that would be like the 2008 USA financial crisis.
