Web site looks fine, probably done by an engineer. Rather that than some slicked up bullshit from some “startup”.

There is also much software that is complete garbage. If the ones with $500k TC are writing decent software, then those making $100k may be writing the garbage.

That path will barely get you to 1% income, and definitely not in all areas. Just another working stiff. The Dr. who runs the LASIK place near me drives a Lambo, and he probably has 10 Drs working for him. It’s rare to strike it rich on yo

Sounds like engineering class, where every kid in the room is “that kid who is good in math”. My kid just got into the the local youth symphony (tough competition), and as I explain to her, every kid in that symphony is probably 1st chair i

Even then, getting a decent satellite station the the suburbs is problematic. I’d like nice rotor setup with dual band, dual polarized yagi. I have a active loop for HF RX, which does a good job of rejecting local noise, but would still be

Neat demonstration. I believe Faradays first motor was a magnet and wire suspended over a cup of mercury to act as a conductor. There is also a telescope that uses a spinning vat of mercury to form a reflector. Vintage mercury vapor rectifi

Listening to the news feed on 167 MHz FM, they say the tornado itself is 1 mile wide, but who knows. Again, maybe more sensationalism. The thread headline is more like baseball statistics.

Considering there were over 1000 tornados last year (and it was a low year), I’d say they are sensationalizing. As I type this, there is a 1 mile wide one just 20 miles from here.

Can anyone comment on the validity of the 5 MT explosion when the core material hit water? This was also stated the the HBO show. I don’t think 5 MT fission bombs are even possible, as they tend to blow themselves apart.

Anokiwave and Qualcomm, off the top of my head. TI has a mmWave in CMOS process, so I can see them getting in on it.

It’s really no different than winning the supercomputer race; there is no finish line and no end. I’d rather have the USA take its time and develop mmWave 5G hardware than the lower frequency stuff Huawei is developing, as mmWave is far mor

Recently I built a tube stereo amplifier kit and speakers. Bought an old fashioned CD player for it. Just put in a CD and push play. No screwing around with apps, streaming, etc. As a teenager in the late 80’s, you knew where your friend

The gain falls off as the RMS surface roughness becomes a fraction of a wavelength; see figure 1 here: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1007.4600.pdf So it would be interesting to see how that effects it. I suppose a crystal fr

Will be interesting to see what they use for a receiving antenna. 90 dBi gain is about the limit for single aperture reflector antennas at RF, as you contended with structure deformation at low frequencies, then surface roughness at high f

Tesla needs to figure out the post sales service and parts. Right now it seems they are cranking out cars like phones; with the intent of disposal after a few years.

Oh, I agree. I work with a guy who has his eye on a used Ferrari, and if he takes good care of it, it will hold or increase in value. He buys them at the bottom of the bathtub curve. However, 99.9% of luxury cars are not exotics. You wil

Ditto. It’s been 23 years since I looked for a job, but all 5 interviews out of EE grad school flew me out and paid for hotel, car, etc. Have times changed? This was standard practice back then.

The open floor plan is nice if you have small kids that need to be watched over. Though as they get older, it’s nicer to have separate rooms. Maybe the compromise is having rooms partitioned with French doors. My in-laws house (about 100
