My guess is they were going to attempt point in time recovery by replaying transaction or relocation log after the snapshot and stop it before the drop. Unless they made a mistake.

I worked on a team that prototyped the “watch the game on your phone at the game” using WiFi. Nobody used it. That isn’t going to be the killer app either.

In the afternoon my son’s temperature is closer to 99.5. Of course I never measured it unless I thought he was sick and confirmation bias led me to believe he was feverish. I finally started checking it in the afternoon when he seemed well

I think the most important thing is that the work stays varied enough to be interesting in the long term. If you aren't able to move to new projects you'll eventually get some combination of bored, restless, and burnt out. Then it

This seems correlated to symptoms of imposter syndrome. I stopped having the dreams around the same time I started to get over imposter syndrome. Only took 18 years.

Back when I worked in the video game industry I built a tool to find places in the collision mesh where objects could fall out of the map. It worked by just doing millions of ball simulations. Distributed the job with one sector per core to

I remember visiting my moms house in my 20s and seeing an old dresser I had as a baby. I immediately had a flash of the feeling of chewing on the drawer handle. My theory is that the memories are there but they just don’t make a lot of sens

I feel like this is a given in a lot of sci-fi I read. "Jokester," an Asimov short story, is premised on people called "Grand Masters" who know how to ask the right questions of Multivac, the globe-spanning supercomputer

Can someone please help me understand how using a relay device defeats proximity detection by time of flight? It’s not like the relay device can talk to the remote device faster than the speed of the original signal.

The very first thing I though of when I heard about the bitcoin reserves was “that’s a great cover story to hide extracting more solid currency out of an obvious Ponzi scheme.” And low and behold it can’t be accounted for. This is my surpri
