A great tool for understanding source code is Source Trail. Supports parsing of C/C++, Python and Java currently. I love tools that help understand a large code base.

I knew somebody who got national attention for making an energy drink named Cocaine. It did not last long on the market due to the name.

I just thought of something. At the time blank CD-R's were about $15 each and the fastest burners at the time were 2x burners. I'm sorry I wasted so much of time the person who burned these and the cost of the media!

It took ages to figure out where the code even was in the many files and folders. The directory structure did not make it obvious.

Many years ago when I worked at Microsoft I asked for the source code to Solitaire. A few days later I received a stack of CD-ROMs with the entire source code of Windows NT (4.0 maybe).

There are some labels developers use today that sound like a need to validate themselves. Is this a result of a competitive environment or a time when everybody gets a trophy? I'd like to understand this one.

When I was in high school we had a PDP System 10 and PDP 11 where I took a programming course on PDP-11 assembly language. It makes me feel old knowing these weren't antiquated at the time.

I don't have a degree. I feel that not having it has cost me some opportunities. Someone once said that when someone has put in years to get their degree they want the candidates they interview to have done that work as well.

I don't have a hard time being alone but I suspect it would be different if I didn't have at least online interactions with people. I start to talk to myself out loud after a while if not around other people.
