The magnet with the strongest magnetic field isn't necessarily the best engineering solution for a fusion reactor. In particular, these magnets need to be cooled (plumbing can be bulky and coolant can be difficult to work with) and all

This is also why it's exciting to see the huge drop in satellite launch costs driven by SpaceX. Your satellite design is going to be much different if you have a few chances to launch on a $1B rocket per year, vs launching it for $10M

There's no official upstream apt repository/ppa, but there is a package in debian experimental (an unofficial but often outdated ppa for ubuntu exists as well, but there's no v0.5.0 in the stable repository). You can also gra

Kessler Syndrome is not really an issue at lower LEO, the atmospheric drag quickly (in ~5 years) deorbits anything without functioning propulsion and navigation systems.

Still, many people don't have proof that they actually had covid-19, some have falsely identified the symptoms of other infections as covid-19, and getting the vaccine will still boost the immune response for an extended period of time

There's about 50 million kids under 12 in the US, so while that percentage looks small that's still ~150,000 kids going to the hospital. I believe the real percentage is probably a bit lower due to underreported infections, but it

The plan for the first test flight is to aim for a controlled water landing, but the odds of that being completely successful aren't high enough to risk a land landing. The new drone ships are still under construction: https:/&#x

That's not true, electric vehicle batteries will have large quantities of valuable materials worth recycling, and companies are already working on this. https://spectrum.ieee.org/amp/lithiumion-battery-recycling-f.

"Docker for Mac" and "Docker for Windows" generally spin up a local Linux VM to run containers, but all of the containers run inside a single VM. (I'm going to gloss over running Windows containers on Windows, which

No. A container shares the same kernel with the host OS. It doesn't do any of its own hardware setup. At most the host kernel will create some virtual network interfaces and create a filesystem for it. The container's processes ar

I think it's viewed as wasteful because it doesn't actually get people into orbit, AND it is expensive. Thus, it's only really appealing to rich people with cash to burn. These vehicles aren't even stepping stones to orb

Starship already requires in-orbit fueling to fully refill its tanks for the outbound journey to Mars when loaded to its 100T payload limit. It cannot carry additional fuel to accelerate and decelerate another 100T+ of water shielding. Spac

The hardware is reporting the errors to the kernel but not crashing the system. It's "difficult to detect" because unless you are specifically monitoring for those stats, the only issue you'll see is degraded performance

Yes, that works fine for a space station, but not so much for a rocket that needs to accelerate and decelerate it on a trip to Mars (and back).
