Great post. Every app designer should think about this.

You're confusing the motivations of individuals (Teachers) with the emergent properties of systems (Schools). It's entirely possible to have systems where all actors' motivations are positive, yet the outcomes are not.

Utter nonsense, pure clickbait froth. The watch is a great v1 product (read some iPhone v1 reviews and compare) and the new model should be announced soon. The new atv is FANTASTIC, and at $149 they will sell a ton of them. And the iPad Pro

My experience was similar. An even bigger push in my case was the async stuff in 3.5. It's going to be a little while before pypy supports 3.5, but once that happens, Python will be very well placed. Something like Tornado + pypy + py

A good article, but it should mention async network programming (probably with http://www.tornadoweb.org/ ) which is the major driving use case behind the adoption of async programming patterns.

There's also power... a wifi module will probably double the power draw on this thing. Lots of projects don't need it.

As a ten year (now-cured) Java/J2EE developer, I whole-heartedly agree with you that Eclipse is a bloated, slow piece of crap. IntelliJ is much better, very quick and responsive. It's actually a great demonstration of how Java app

This looks great. Hopefully this can be configured to set off a big fat alarm if any unexpected syscalls get called. Will be a huge security win.

Agreed. The Oculus acquisition still has me scratching my head. I don't doubt that VR will be a major technology, if the Oculus manages to follow up on the promise of the DK. But it seems so very different to FB's current market a

Apple Pay's privacy is much better. AIUI: Apple knows nothing about your cards (they are all encrypted on-device), and nothing about your transaction except that there was A transaction (since Apple just sees a token that gets passed f

I always found it instructive that the WWW conquered the world and not Xanadu. X is a much more elegant, rich environment where hyperlinks are more meaningful and it would have been a better world in many ways - but it needs coordination be

Agree that Python 3.5 is a turning point. Async/await in the core language is HUGE, and really makes Python a great language for the future. Tornado + py3.5 is a very easy and monster-performing platform.

Oh my gods, I can't up vote this enough. This should be mandatory reading before one is allowed to use a text editor. Though PostgreSQL is as good a choice as MySQL. Technically better (AIUI) but with a less gigantic support base.

Interesting comment, but you're missing a critical reason we can't go straight for the goalpost - we don't know where it is! Yes, our computation architecture is sub-optimal for the situation we find ourselves in, but we only

To succeed in financial dev you need to be comfortable working in a heavyweight, slow large-corporate environment. Think lots of meetings, lots of time estimation & metrics, using Java, C# or C++ (shudder), people caring what you wear.

Right. A good ORM should deal with all your common cases (if not, your schema probably needs improving), and it saves you writing a lot of boilerplate code. For the edge cases where you need complex joins and/or extra performance, don&

I find DRF far superior. Nice consistent API once you get the hang of views and serializers, and the built-in browser UI is just awesome.

It's not valid, as has been discussed about a dozen times in the thread. Peering arrangements to consumer ISPs are not symmetrical, and never have been.
