At least Bruno knows his stuff, unlike Calhoun. Believing (too long) in the conventional industry standards is to me a more forgiveable sin compared to throwing standards overboard willy nilly in the name of profit. ULA has been reliable in

I think GP means the coordination between parents, and I agree on that: if you can’t get a strong majority of parents to agree on keeping their children off of social media & smart phones, you as parents have the choice between two outc

How is this humanly possible? Was Euler even an order of magnitude faster at producing new math than, say, Gauss or von Neumann?

Indeed. Is that also at highway speeds? And what generation is it, I’m guessing a Prius? Afaik e.g. a Corolla with comparable trunk space as my Leon doesn’t get that low.

Didn't even need to extrapolate future potential. The world of supercomputing was massively sunsetting the old vector processors (Cray, Sparc etc.) and switched to commodity x86 hardware back in that timeframe when CUDA came out. Perfe

you're missing the software part, which is essential to this story. Nvidia was the only GPU maker betting the farm on positioning for GPGPU/HPC all the way back in ~2007. What is happening now and since the last couple of years is

OpenCL was a decent effort, but without Nvidia on board it was IMO too little too late - by the time that became a thing, NVDA already was entrenched in the accelerator compute software space. Even worse when Intel/AMD didn't offe

I think register files, shared memory and even texture memory patterns are basically the GPU's way of having fully programmable caches, as opposed to cache being a grey box like on CPUs. Overall I think for HPC code it works out better

Inference-only hardware like this could be a temporary cost saving solution to scale up AI infrastructure, but I think a chip the size of this should be able to support training, otherwise it’s just a waste of money and energy. I predict in

Why would you need Fortran for anything other than math? To put it differently, what’s the problem with just using 2 languages, e.g. Fortran plus Python with f2py?
