They risk next to nothing by keeping tight control while there is little or no competition. If it turns out that people prefer e.g. Android because of this, they can easily change their policy and turn it into a positive PR event. If people

Making a better product is no guarantee in the slightest of it becoming a standard. You have the wrong definition of "better". The definition that matters isn't what an engineer thinks is superior based on whatever an engineer thinks is i

They do have an adapter for connecting directly to cameras, or readins SD cards. Don't if it'll let you import the photos or not, but I suppose it'll at least show them.

Same here. Anyone know if and how they handle that? Seems like a major problem that'd prevent this sort of thing from working well.

What I see is a button with a grayed out text next to it that says "Off" (or even worse, just "O"). Maybe I'm just damaged from having tried to understand more or less broken GUIs the last twenty years and overthink it :P Another thing that

Am I the only one who has to think twice every time I see one of those controls; "does the text mean that it's currently off, or does it mean that sliding it over there will turn it off"?

Well, they did construct a computerized version of the method the slime uses to construct the network. Also they say that it's suitable for use in a dynamic network where traffic flows change and nodes are added and removed.

From the latest Dreamhost newsletter: In fact, Ceph is practically what you'd call "stable" at this point (which is not to say it's "production-ready"!), and we've actually begun testing it as a backup/replacement for our poor backup.dream

I just saw something related in the news, apparently corruption in Afghanistan is on the scale of 23% of GDP. I can imagine that changing an economic system with that much corruption to something better is hard, since everyone depends on ho

Well, VLC et al seem to be able to decode and play videos without a problem, and one would think that the remaining 85% of CPU would be enough to copy the decoded image data into a buffer for the browser... But I haven't tried to do it myse

If Apple allowed browser plugins to move video-decompression out of the CPU too, then that would be great. What prevents the plugins from using hardware? They're binaries that can run anything they want, aren't they?

Could it be that it's a PPC emulation thing? If an Intel binary can load a PPC lib, then the calls between them would have to follow the same rules (and perhaps PPC wants things 16 byte alinged?).

I'd say that that war is a lot worse in Middle East than it is in the US. Not speaking from personal experience, but having a $5000 dollar bomb dropped on you and/or your relatives seems like it'd be worse than paying for it.
