I'm not sure that spending your time on HN instead is much of an improvement.

While this was going on, their copy of Bingo Card Creator has been relentlessly polling the server: “Has she bought it yet? Has she bought it yet? Has she bought it yet?” It does this by passing the same random ID to a web service runni

Nope, Ytterboe isn't swedish. "Person living in Ytterby" is "Ytterbybo", which is close but not quite the same.

There are also several other places named "Ytterby", translated the name means something like "outer village". (I happen to live in one of the other ones :)) Pointless map of Ytterbys in Sweden: http://kartor.eniro.se/m/pBGRL

Anyway, those who care enough about fashion will remove the case and only put it on when they need a little extra reception. Or use the headset and put the phone away in your pocket, the way God intended phone calls to be made.

I've seen the last case on my "what are people Liking" page which consists of a bunch of iframes served by Facebook. Good to know it only affects FF.

If you depend on it to pay your rent, you're going to need lots of people to click those buttons - and when lots of people do it you care less about how much each one gives and more about the averages. Flattr should publish "average pay per

As an aside, the SSD firmwares -could- detect pages filled with ones or zeros and use that knowledge to transparently do a "TRIM light", at the cost of doubling the size of the "block in use" bitmap (to track 'free', 'in use', 'all zeroes',

Not only that, he explicitly filled the drive with zeroes using Disk Utility. He probably should have run HDDerase (or a similar utility from Samsung, if available) from a bootable USB stick to clear it instead.

Does the SSD really treat overwriting everything with zeroes as a low level format? I'm guessing "no", and that the entire test was performed on dirty disks.

They don't write their own firmware though, they buy it from one of a few places that hopefully know what they're doing.

Why would there be crashes? The running apps will keep their already loaded binary until they're restarted. Maybe there'll be some bugs in handling shared on-disk resources (cache, and maybe something else?), but I doubt that those parts ch

It shouldn't be very to hard to generate a list of running apps that link against the updated libs and ask the user for permission to restart them... Or let the user ignore it at own peril.

Normal 3G video chat has one disadvantage: the video quality is so bad it makes puppies weep. Most of the time you can't really see who you're talking to unless you already know who it is. It's probably mostly due to bad encoders, and partl

It would be useful to have an API that'll provide device optimal settings given a set of minimum requirements. It wouldn't help with the bug based problems, of course, but it's a start.

Downloading the initial sync over 3g isn't something I'd do if I could avoid it, but incremental syncs would be just fine. Even adding an album or two wouldn't take -that- long, and if the network can't handle a few downloads now and then i

Agreed, I can't think of any good reason not to allow sync over wifi (or over 3g for that matter, if I'm on a flatrate plan).

It'd better be an N Wifi if I'm going to sync 16GB of music to a new device, and even that's going to take quite a while. Of course, USB 2.0 isn't really up to the task either - but at least it's faster by a significant factor.
