Those are probably SGD, not USD. So a bit less, but still a considerable damage.

I built my billing system on top of Django and it's used in 2 online services for a few thousand users and hundreds of invoices a month. You have to be mindful of some edge cases, but if the scope is kept narrow, it's doable. The

Still remember being introduced to it in 2005 while working in the UK as sailing instructor for a summer job. An older guy showed me how he automated cataloging his grandma's possessions for auction with it, which deeply fascinated me.

Immich is making fast progress and is a great alternative to PhotoPrism for pictures, since the UI is more similar to Google Photos. Just the memory usage is still a bit high. At https://pikapods.com , we revenue share with the a

A bit like me. Got started setting up a webshop for my first startup and had to learn Apache and PHP. If anyone with similar skills (Python, Docker, Shell) reads this and looks do get started, do check out our Google Summer of Code projects

Giving only one option per category may not be enough. There are usually several great FOSS apps for each, targeting different uses. Some more choices here: https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted The

Personally, I think the combination of blog, newsletter and optional monetization is a good fit for many.

They are still pushing FOSS adoption and publish bugfixes regularly. The aim just isn't to have many cheap hosting users directly. Not speaking for the project here. Just what I understood from conversations with devs.

Ghost is run by a foundation with a hard limit on revenue. They don't need more users at this point.

At PikaPods we have Ghost and WordPress to run with a few clicks. Comes with a subdomain, but can also add your own domain: https://www.pikapods.com/apps#blog

What I meant was that there are people who don't run ZFS, but still need backups. So it won't work for everyone. Even for my own use cases, not every server and system I maintain could use ZFS right away. Still good to know about

Probably. My benchmark was mostly to compare Borg v1.2 and v2 and some network optimizations. Restic was a stretch goal really. For Kopia, I do try it once a year, but I still find the docs and CLI args confusing. Running the server part be

Remote ZFS replication kinda does. But the offsite backup wouldn't be encrypted and not everyone is using ZFS. So it's not for all situations.

Borg is surprisingly fast and memory-efficient, even when compared to Restic, which is written in Go. Recently did a benchmark to test the upcoming Borg v2 and this surprised me the most: https://github.com/borgbase/ben

Said differently: good decisions save time in the future, bad decisions keep on wasting time. The goal is to compound the benefits of good decisions.

Yes, it's stable. They even added compression this year. We just added support for Restic on BorgBase.com. Will have more user feedback in a few months, but first tests and benchmarks are pretty encouraging.

At BorgBase.com the largest Borg repo we host is about 70 TB. Still manageable with server-side pruning. Mostly larger files from what the user told me. We just added support for Restic too. Using Nginx with HTTP/2. Fastest combination
