You can implement RPC in tuplespaces pretty easily: Client: out("rpc-request", uuid, "say_hello", "m0th") in("rpc-request", uuid, ?response) Server: in("rpc-request", ?uuid, ?method, ?arg) response = call(method, arg)

To some degree, it's a fair critique. RPC is a loaded term, because there were far too many implementations that tried to hide the network, which is a recipe for disaster. We were hesitant of going forward with the name ZeroRPC ourselves be

Apologies, must've misread something. Removed that point.

Few more points: * Bridge currently uses a central broker, ZeroRPC is broker-less. * ZeroRPC gives you streaming responses (similar to python generators). Bridge instead provides pub/sub. * Bridge uses callbacks everywhere, whereas it varie

And nobody owes Craigslist, LinkedIn, or Netflix anything either. They can act as shitty as they want, but nobody should be surprised when it gives them bad press.

Somewhat of a side-note, but interestingly enough, MessagePack's author cited ZeroRPC as a good example of MessagePack's use case: https://gist.github.com/2908191

Syntactically ZeroRPC calls look mostly the same as local calls, but semantically we don't hide erroneous states like you might expect a typically opaque RPC layer to do. If an RPC call times out, you get a special exception that you can ch

We did python and node.js first because we use them a lot internally. There's no firm roadmap for future implementations, but we're hoping once the protocol is well-documented, implementations can start growing organically.

Flattering that you should compare us to them, but this is an early-stage experiment, and we're not quite sure how it'll play out yet!

Not only that, but Microsoft tried to develop parts of their OS in C# for Longhorn and gave up. Office doesn't use C#/.NET either.

My experience is the exact opposite. Whenever I struggle with an FP concept, those deeply nested in the community tend to be both eager to help and pretty unassuming. This is especially true among Haskellites (Haskellistas?) who usually u

He brought this up on Dev Days too (2009?) and made a jab at the lisp backend not knowing how to handle the back button. It's sort of low to keep hearkening back to the same usability mishap. Also IIRC a lot of websites behaved this way b

If you look at the original RPC work by Bruce Nelson [1], it's pretty clear that there's no strict definition of it. I think most would argue that SOAP would be included, which is still pretty common. 1: http://nd.edu/~dthain/courses/cse59

It's disheartening to see this at the top. First because Tyson should be vilified for defending what he believes in, and second because this level of cynicism is apparently easy to vote up on HN.

Alexis Ohanian isn't a developer, but he's one of the names behind reddit and hipmunk. I don't think anyone would argue he hasn't had a big role in either company's success. Clearly you can be a non-developer founder without being that "ide
