Yeah, I thought it was neat. I'm not an audio guy, so I have no idea if the tech is actually impressive. As a game though, I've been playing it for a couple hours and it's really well done.

I liken TAOCP to Proust. Fawned over by a small subset of people (rightfully so), a larger subset who talks about it but doesn't actually read it, and shunned by the majority as dense and intimidating.

That was the fastest $10 I've ever spent in the App Store. I'll echo most people's sentiments, this is seriously cool (although I must look like an idiot walking around my apartment pointing my phone at everything).

There is also a part 1 (which includes an intro to monads): http://channel9.msdn.com/Blogs/Charles/C9-Lectures-Greg-Mere... I know I've seen some posts recently where people are inquiring about them.

I used this as a rationale for learning VIM 15 years ago. The overwhelming majority of machines I've accessed haven't had Emacs installed, so I'm not sure if there's a huge problem with remapping your Emacs config to be something that works

Basically that I absolutely believe this is a bogus story, but my reasons for believing that aren't able to be shared due to direct involvement. I don't expect other people to take that as evidence of anything (because who the hell am I), b

I guess I'm balking because my answer to the question "is he a known liar?" is "yes, by anyone who knows him or has worked with him." The problem with that statement is that from what I can see, no one who meets that criteria is commenting

It's unfair of me to cast aspersions against Greg that the general public wouldn't be in a position to back up; but I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone with knowledge of either him or the situation to not consider him an untrustwor

After conferring with some folks, I will now say that the odds of this being true are virtually nill. This might not be helpful for people here, but the best advice I can give is to "consider the source" (Greg Perry).

I keep seeing comments like this posted in this article, and maybe I'm just being defensive; but I kind of think that's a dangerously dismissive point of view. I think developers have been creating applications long before they had "large s

I can second a recommendation for Textastic. Specifically, it uses Fraise's syntax definition files, so it has support for a crapload of languages: ( http://www.textasticapp.com/manual/lessons/Which_file_types_... ) I see people complaining

I've always found it odd how many resources they still devote to R&D considering their acquisition strategy. I agree, I actually still like the company (although I was never actually a fan of the Pix's, the ASA's are a lot better). When

I think this guy's comment (who says he works at Twitter on trends) is a valid explanation for this: http://studentactivism.net/2010/12/05/wikileaks-twitter-3/#c... I'm not so sure it's a giant Twitter/State Department Consipiracy.

I would be very surprised if the Marshall Service doesn't have pretty straightforward guidelines about what sorts of things to avoid when under witness protection. I would expect that having a Facebook account at all is something to avoid.

The most surprising thing to me was the fact that Wikileaks was using Paypal at all. It seems like Paypal is a terrible choice if you're doing something even slightly controversial. Although I'm not sure what their other options would be.

Considering how much more popular the Galaxy S Phone is in Korea than outside of it, it's entirely possible that the Galaxy Tab is similarly popular there. I suspect that's true, as you can't presently buy the Wifi only version in the U.S.
