Why not hydrogen? Stuffing a Mirai's guts into a turboprop is a project we could do today. Solves the waiting/hoping for battery technology problem and saves Toyota's $billions invested in r&d from the toilet.

Interesting that Emacs Lisp is way below the line and VimL is way, way, way below the line. Is it really that people don't have questions, or maybe they have better forums for accessing help -- from emacs.stackexchange.com to emacsWiki

I'll bet we can have a civil discussion about this.

There's plenty of cheap land and labor 100 miles east of San Francisco. Why don't we build homelessville there?

Agreed. Except format strings and stream formatting and printing options get confusing quickly.

Cool. I'm not sure that using quicklisp that way is kosher. Quicklisp doesn't allow you to pin a particular version of a dependency. The upshot is that your code that works today may not work tomorrow. I've been looking for a

Fair. But the drive is about 15 minutes directly there. With Bart, drive + train + walk, it would be 45 minutes. It's really about total time.

There's this frustrating principle of public transit where I've never lived in a place that I could take it and get there faster than I could by some other means. There's a bus stop right in front of my house, and light rail

Thanks. Did you subscribe to find that out? Because it didn't seem like there was any other way to read the article. The web has become a very aggressive pan handler.

I often go to work at a lab that is as close to the Warm Springs BART station as any business could be, but I will still drive because walkability is so bad it will still be a 15 minute walk. Maybe someday they will build something near the

Exactly. I used to be one of these hardcore guys typing fast and never taking my hands off the keyboard; then I got RSI and learned to appreciate value slow methodical approaches.

I would prefer my employer to offer more liberty than they do. What's the point living in a liberal democracy if my most local of governments, the corporation, is a bunch of Nazi dick bags?

Okay but it's too easy to fill a todo list with more than you can accomplish in one lifetime. I need a guide that tells me how to rationally prioritize work, health and family above my never-ending .emacs.d side project.

Too bad orgzly hasn't solved synchronizing. Notepad for Google Drive is a text editor with no features except it gets sync right and has become my favorite way. Print out your todo list and carry a pen also works well.

I agree advanced automation would be needed to maximize capacity. A basic system only needs cruise control, lights and cameras installed at the merge points and a transponder like fasttrak that monitors your speed and automatically fines yo

The account in the book says traffic improved in the neighborhood where they removed the roads. It was a small-scale experiment. Subsequently NYC built a bunch more roads and traffic got worse. True believers point to a cause-and-effect rel

Here's my idea: Rather than high-occupancy lets make the left lane a guaranteed-speed lane. The rule is that all cars in the lane move at 80 mph. If you can't merge in or out of the lane is such a way that no one else has to brake
