I'm talking about relative perception. Obviously MySQL is doing something right.

Agreed. We're a Postgres shop at work, and the few times I've had to bust out MySQL for a side gig because of client requirements I lament the lack of functions and transactional DDL. It feels like a toy.

That is really neat. I'd been fighting with writing a scanner/parser for the first time and finally gave up -- this might scratch the itch that prompted me to do so in the first place.

Great job tacking on a single paragraph to a lengthy excerpt from a WSJ article. Really. Fantastic work.

I disagree with the comments on the keyboards. The iPad and iPod/iPhone keyboards occupy different amounts of horizontal space in both landscape and portrait modes and there is no way to place the keys in the same positions without inconsis

I am! I've mostly done Python web dev work and a heavy dose of Postgres admin and PL work. Have been recently into Node.js, Redis, wouldn't mind diving into that as a main gig. Pertinent contact information is available via my user profile.

There's a reason Adobe is so entrenched in this market -- The products are actually good. They include new features that take the OSS alternatives years to implement, if they ever do.

Not at all. It's just good sense to pick up other languages in general. Find one that has something interesting, play along with the official tutorial, writing the code as you go along.

I think you should write a micro-framework. I feel the same way about ORM. It's completely irrational on my part because I'm extremely comfortable writing absurd numbers of joins using crazy criteria for my day-to-day at work, and have some

What you're pointing out doesn't really discount her point. There can be countless Groupon clones and photo sharing apps that blow hard and still be gems like Twitter and Wordpress.

I started messing around with PyPy and love the idea of it. Is there a good Postgres lib for PyPy yet? I've been hooked on Psycopg2 since I got into Python and would love to take advantage of the speed boost from PyPy for my surrounding cod

I sort of like the idea, but think I'd rather just have a CoffeeScript version of EJS. It's hell on my shift key but I still _like_ HTML as it is, after all these years.

I like to rip on MySQL as much as the next guy, but the article is incorrect about MySQL DATETIMEs: DATETIME: Eight bytes: A four-byte integer packed as YYYY×10000 + MM×100 + DD A four-byte integer packed as HH×10000 + MM×100 + SS Storing U

If it wasn't a stolen balance then I would agree with you. A massive sell-off of BTC could've happened at any time. But in terms of self-preservation it would've been in MtGox's best interest to have a circuit breaker. I'm contradicting mys

Circuit breakers give the exchange a chance to cool off and think things over. It isn't really intervention. It's just a halt to trades and they could take their BTC to Tradehill if they really feel like selling. Bitcoin fans like to preten
