Yea i kind of agree also the way I have set up the page it is only an issue in mobile view. I guess the combination of no JS and mobile is even smaller.

Really good point. I'm more of a backend person. But how would you do it?

I mean I hate JS as much as the next person. Also, for my blog I wanted to use as minimal JS as possible. But when it comes to a sidebar I don't think adding a few lines like this is soo bad. <script> const button_close

Not sure if this was really because of the pandemic but for me the last 3 years have been life changing in a positive way. A feeling of "not beeing the only one feeling lonely sometimes" I think helped for sure.

So, I went directly into data science after an econ degree, worked there for 2 years and then transitioned to SWE (at startups). First, I am 100% certain ML will become a part of the standard SWE toolkit (just like apis, docker, sql, etc..)

I wonder what you all are using for EFS? I guess for larger models in ML (like NLP transformer stuff) it makes sense. I have observed myself moving everything i could to a DB and if i cant mostly S3. But for both there will be a latency pul

I use retool a lot, you can "hack it" with js code in the frontend, eventhough i load a lot of the code on my backend apis.

i use this setup (besides using python fastapi code in the backend) and i really love it. Retool is awesome.

i ended up with a fastapi (on lamdas) and retool as a frontend. I really like it.

That is a really good point. I spent some time putting ml equations into code and the code representation always seemed so much simpler to me. Many math equations seem a bit like too clever one liners in code haha

So I only do data engineering, backend APIs, Data Science and Machine Learning. And so many times i learned something about OOP, i go excited I implemented it and i ended up with a solution that was really complex and I re-implemented it us

there is no way to achieve this in Python right? I miss this from js.

This is a big trap to fall in to. I dont understand why network trafficking is so expencive also in AWS. I once had a 2k monthly bill purely from networking because i accidentally routed a lot of requests through a NAT. That hurt haha. Now

Really interesting. I would argue that a lot of datapoints (maybe all) in fact do have a natural index. It is the fact if you are talking about Relational databases (every tables has a primary key). In a lot of scenarios it helped me a lot

yea I know what you mean. The main use I have found is something like. Say you have a price per company_id and per transaction_id. Now you have some function, which for the sake of it, takes it to an exponent. i used to write a lot of funct

I have been using indexes more and more if you do essentially series based operations but you need to re-associate the results back. It enables you to avoid using dataframes as inputs to your data transformations.

Hey regarding groupby operations in pandas. I have been moving more and more (for too complicated groupbys) to running them something like: out_rec = [] for id, group in data_frame.groupby("id"): ladidida.... r

I wonder if the cold start will ever be fully fixed. Because most other services would seem to be made redundant then.

hehe, im just going the other way for a startup of mine. Were i started with ECS (aws cloud run basically) and now going to lambda. Bot for our usecase the cold start isnt such a big deal.

Honestly, the interview process being as broken as it is is one of the biggest opportunities for startups, or companies willing to take a risk to snatch up really good talent which is overlooked.

Some early comments criticizing some kind of caricature of a know nothing business guy spewing marketing buzzwords. OK. I don't deny these people exists, and admittedly, I have a B2B point of view. But early, cold B2B sales is hell and
