My six week old daughter recently started to smile at me. Even knowing it's just mirroring my face, and there's not much in the way of consciousness there, I could have died happy...

Totally agree. I _really_ wish there was an italic variant; that would pretty much guarantee it'd be the only monospace I use again.

I find it interesting that "according to my preferences" is pretty much exactly what you've trained. It _should_ be better according to your preferences, since you're not training it with actual contrast differences, but

Are there any dumbphones that have 4G hotspot tethering as a feature? I'm not that interested in all the extra stuff that comes in the smart phone package, but being able to tether my laptop or tablet is really useful to me.

It's not that we're upset about the keyboard, or at least, it's not that I am. I'm upset that, despite the incredibly vibrant community around interesting mechanical keyboards (ergo or not), Jeff Atwood came to "sav

This is, to me, a really poignant post. I think there's a level of civility that sometimes can be lacking in our daily lives as engineers, and markcc does a good service by writing well about it.

I'd start with using full words, and not "chat" speak. I don't mean to pick on you, but if you wanted to take some of my time to discuss something, and you sent me an email that had a subject line like your title here, it would be marked sp

See my comment above, but I'm pretty sure you have his argument backwards; we already _do_ have application specific URLs in iOS, and wouldn't it be nice if that weren't the case?

I'm pretty sure you've got his argument backwards: 1. We already _do_ have fb://profile/account, it's the app specific URL registered in the iOS app to open the Facebook app. 2. What he's saying is "Why can't you register http://facebook.c

The problem, in my opinion, is that unlike Linux, recreating the important parts of Java as open source wouldn't be fun. The issue isn't the VM, or the compilers or anything like that (which exist and _are_ open source) or the standard libr

Apple isn't "using discrete graphics for that app", Apple is using discrete graphics for a given set of APIs which CloudApp is using to do something. Did they need to do it that way? Maybe, maybe not, but the onus is on the application deve

Nothing in PhoneGap is against the TOS. It's a wrapper around HTML and JS, providing in WebKit's javascript engine access to system services. In that sense, it's not against the part of the TOS which says specifically you can use Webkit.
