Imagine a world where OpenStreetMap is financially sustainable but Google maps were not. That's where we would be without ads, and it's beautiful.

Running social media apps is the furthest from secure I would imagine. You could just use a web browser if you really wanted to.

I agree and that's why I use Emacs. It's perfect out of the box for me. I may not even use external packages if eglot gets merged in.

What issues? Attaching to a session created in another emulator? I tried switching from kitty to alacritty and it was definitely not worth it, kitty's docs, and features, are just absurdly better.

So does this mean one can already interface with a GPL program/library and ignore it's license? Is this the end of the GPL dual-license business model? https://github.com/JoshCheek/clisp/blob/master&

I adore 4:3 screens and definitely see myself using something like this as my next laptop just for this reason, even if I would not touch the screen at all. But it must at least run unmodified debian before I consider buying something like

That's an entirely different concern. If people would not shove their repository alongside those features, instead of relaying those through a standalone and documented manner, I would probably also be easily tracking those features in

I prefer to think they do and simply omitted "web interface" from the title. Edit: Was a response to edited-out "Do people not know you can self host git using ... git?"

Git web interfaces should be Bring Your Own, really. I never bother using those as I can have a consistent interface inside emacs. Why should the repository owner choose which interface you view it on?

A centralized proprietary service is exactly what we need to replace the other thousands of services who all do the same thing but look evil due to some mysterious coincidence, totally unrelated to being centralized and proprietary.

Yeah definitely the case with numpy and libstdc++ and others. I cook up a Nix-shell when I need those. Already having those dependencies is pretty common in FHS linux systems in my experience.

It's usually pre-compiled but yes. Go binaries are also architecture-specific, so it's equivalent there. I'm fairly sure my whole venv is pure python though so it should be even more portable if you factor out the interpreter

I do basically the same with python. The host does need to have the interpreter installed, then I can just rsync my local venv, not even a build step is neccessary.

Substituting "we" for the company name would probably not help at all. The text simply is too personal. This is particularly bad for a company whose goal is likely to provide value with absolute minimal friction—the potential user

I'm sorry if I sounded dismissive, I was just impressed by the way the text sounded to Me, as I read it, and figured people might be interested in the data that I collected as I thought made said text sound weird to Me. I have no idea

Flutter is far more worrying IMO. The Web at least is somewhat standardized and definitely going to last long. There's also nothing intrinsically too slow about it, JS runtimes can definitely be made fast and render engines tend to imp

All the highly optimistic claims from the blog post and HN comments would be a bit believable if someone could just show us a web demo that doesn't suck hard. Or show us something accessible at the very least.

But how could anyone reasonably claim they are Rust, particularly given the large reach of it's online services, like docs, crates.io and rustup? Those trademarks are very unlikely to produce anything except another round of debian
