The thing that ticks me off is that there hasn't been conclusive evidence that actually justifies this ban. I'd be perfectly happy if the CIA came out with documents of how the data goes to China, but all I've seen is evidenc

Also for anyone who's willing to put up with eng subs/underdtand mandarin, Geekerwan has a very in-depth video (+Linux and real world usage!) on the chip. https://youtu.be/GpUJHHwedCw

Pretty much any modern architecture could be called 'better' than x86 by now! Loongson has a surprisingly high amount of compiler and toolchain support which is pretty interesting. They also have quite a lot of kernel code upstrea

From my rough knowledge of textbooks RAM access is usually in the hundreds of cycles. The napkin math makes more sense in that order of magnitude too! In any case it seems unlikely L3 has similar latency considering memory heirachy! Interes

For reference the chip comes half-a-year after the original (9000). It's far more of a refresh than anything (as the name 9010 implies). Still seriously behind Qualcomm and the likes, roughly the level of an 888. Interestingly 9010&#x

I'm honestly a bit appalled by the comments here. Do people nlt see that it's wrong to discriminate an entire ethnicity because of certain bad actors? Is it alright to discriminate against black or marginalized people because a fe

AvenueX on YT had a pretty good comparison and review for both. TL;DW the Netflix one fails to use its budget for anything, and instead tries to appeal to its audience (or at least who Netflix thinks is their audience) with sex scenes, roma

It's Insyde (they outsource firmware dev), so it's proprietary as of right now. Hopefully they can switch to an open firmware like Coreboot in the future.

I expect this is largely a issue with the bleeding-edge AMD GPU and CPU which don't have great support yet. If you can, definitely try to get on the newest version of the kernel, I know a few people who've had success with that!

If they ever do expand to China I'm sure this will come. I'm somewhat disappointed too, especially the lack of the long-promised 'creator-marketplace'. Overall though, I'm still more than happy with my 11th gen. It&

That's a bit like saying the fact that the MacBook Pro is actively cooled is a downside. For any workflow other than Facebook browsing I'm relatively sure you want active cooling unless you want to lose half your performance after

They have had a license to import Intel chips since the ban, I think it just got renewed too.

The first point you raises goes with the second. Some obvious prejudice showing through. It's already been tested to maintain 40W by third-parties...

Past Matebooks have had OK support. If I remember correctly, there's some packages that provide some of the functionality of Huawei's window drivers (third-party though).

Note that this seems inaccurate. Early reviews on Bilibili indicate a modified (better OLED pixel rendering) Windows 11 as the primary OS. HarmonyOS PC is apparently in the works. Mildly disappointed they're not going with Linux ofc.

Yes and no, Intel's Meteor lake is a significant step up in efficiency, obviously not quite Apple's M-series level yet, but the performance is better with graphics and CPU. The weight argument's fair. I carry around a relativ

The title is completely irrelevant (consumer chips are not blocked, and they've been using Intel chips for ages, they have a license for it too). What's amazing are the specs. 4K 120Hz OLED with <2dE in sRGB, Adobe, and P3 Weig

I don't believe that is the target for a local LLM... Pretty sure we're talking about client-side computing, of which the newest supports only AVX-512 (and even that sketchily on Intel's side).

Strange question? Photonics suffers from logic density issues, certainly not frequency or power usage compared to relatively inefficient transistors.

Transistor power is really not a joke. Synapses would take far far FAR more power at close to similar frequencies. Biological neurons are incredibly inefficient.

That's not what the article is about... Many people lack details on how antenna designs are optomized and the application of Faraday and Lenz's law in signal propogation. This is what the article addresses.

Hyprland isn't really tiling only, floating works quite well too! I'd say lightweight, customize, and eye-candy as the main advantages though.
