I'm also stoked they're finally removing crap like register_globals and magic_quotes. "Safe mode" caused many headaches as well trying to get software running on all possible configurations, adding lots of little restrictions without much

Nice to know we were right all along eh? ;) I slouch just a bit and it never bothers me. I also tend to fidget, get up a lot, switch positions. I don't sit still very well...

I've been putting off buying a house or making any big commitments like that for precisely this reason. Doin' the startup thing right now, but there's no reason why that can't happen from wherever I happen to be too. Working on a plan to

Definitely don't sign! It very well may have potential, and you didn't start assuming you'd be building someone else's empire. If one is being built, you should be a founder too. Technically at this point, the copyright ownership on that

Socializing is both something human beings feel a need to do (therefore useful in itself to satisfy that need) but it can also augment other activities to make them more useful too. The latter requires care not to do "social for the sake o

Cool, I read a few of the other 'planet' sites as well and this would be a welcome addition to the list! It's nice to have topical aggregators for things shared insights or individual company news that aren't quite newsworthy to the genera

Hopefully you have something in writing that protects your IP rights as well, or she may be able to run off with the code. Conversely, if you've signed away ownership though, you may need to buy her shares out to retain 100% ownership. Sho

jQuery has been immensely helpful in speeding up our development. Can't wait to see a stable jQuery UI 1.5 and then what they come up with for ARIA support. It's awesome to see accessibility get some love from the modern JS libraries and

I just read through the whole submission and replies. I woke up with a feeling of dread because I remembered that I posted something (and not what that something was) to HN last night after having a few drinks at my friend's going away par

PHP simply requires discipline, which unfortunately many people in the PHP world lack due to its initial target audience. Provided you find real hackers and not just designer-turned-coder types, PHP is totally workable. Mind you, when you'

In my experience, honesty is your friend here :) I had a contract that we took on which inherited someone else's codebase as a starting point, but it sounded simple enough. When we realized it was getting not-so-simple we had to decide whe

Thanks for sharing these stories. I'm sure we can all relate to at least some of these issues (some more than others -- I've been there/done that on almost all of them! ;). Some of the product knowledge issues we've been fortunate enough t

I just googled and found that jQuery UI is going to be made ARIA compatible after the 1.5 release too, which is awesome! The AxsJAX project mentioned in the post looks really cool too. Has anyone tried the jARIA jQuery plugin yet? Accessi

I'd lean towards the "carrots" myself, and there are lots of potential ones (user customizable profiles, more simultaneous games, "pro" games, etc). Look at what other successful startup multiplayer game sites are doing and try some out.
