That's insane how well the faces are exposed given the dynamic range of the light in that shot. With an SLR the correct exposure is like walking a tightrope. Definite postprocessing required to get a result near the L16 image.

I totally disagree. These things are not obvious. I thought it was a great post. My friends have asked me why dropbox and youtube haven't added any new features in years. The business people that I work with do not see and do not under

I agree the rewriting is obnoxious. It's a generational thing tho. 😁 Try and find a college aged girl that doesn't use emojis. Only ones that don't are "conscientious objectors", and to most people in that age group

Ehh, intelligence/nervous systems aren't the hard part. It's development of the eukaryotic cell that's extremely chance. Microbial life in no way entails higher life. It's only by the insanely chance event of the eu

You can use REST architectural principles with a faster transport and serialization. For example, using a REST style API for a messagepack or thrift RPC service.

How do you implement "no really, this request should not return until the server has successfully completed external communication"? You can do some sort of websocket-y mechanism to tell the client that the server has completed a

Anyone hoping for upgradability from a company with Apple's track record is utterly naive. Great quality though, typing this on a MBP.

Yep. The niches carved out by vimeo and liveleak are interesting in their own right. But I mostly wanted to say, youtube is pretty fucking great.

Really cool and the site looks great too! Was a css framework used for the styling or is it hand written? Can't tell from the minification.

Great article! What's the database backed dynamic website equivalent of this? For node? For python? For ruby? Building out your own deployment on AWS or linode is obnoxious. Heroku gets expensive fast.

> "I got a string but expected an int" It's not initially that it's an issue. Refactoring is where static typing shines. When you change an anonymous (or otherwise ungreppable) function that's passed around all o

Why did you go back to eating sugar? Dropping the low carb thing I can understand. I do low carb paleo on and off as my fiscal and lifestyle circumstances dictate... but I keep my sugar intake low regardless.

This is the most insanely strawman argument against python 2 I've ever read. I've written thousands of lines of unicode aware python 2 code.

If you really care about this, rebasing is a shitty solution. Patch queues like mercurial's make it much easier to logically decompose a feature into a series of patches and shuffle code between the commits until they all settle nicely

An iPad app I like and wanted to build on top of uses signed requests. Except the signing occurs on the iPad and is verified by the server. Oops. I disassembled the app and took the secret key to generate my own requests.

I think you've got it exactly backwards. Events are not part of the view. Events happen to be triggered by the view and they affect global state which is then reflected in the view. This is the separation of concerns you want. Componen

The react philosophy of the world is that mixing mutable state and views is bad, logic and views is fine. To be honest this makes a lot of sense to me as a functional programmer. After learning react something conked in my brain. As I rehas
