Oh, people are infinitely varied, but I'd invite you to try taking away the average footballer's television, then consoling them that you'll tell them the score when it's over :)

The article manages to be factually correct while still missing the point entirely, because he conflates uncertainty (randomness) with pointlessness, and the ability to describe something probabilistically with reducibility to mere ra

While that number also seems low to me, comparing the failure rate of a court case with a single line of code is a ludicrous analogy. I, a distracted and harried developer, will write hundreds of lines of code a day and not think twice abou

Very cool. Isn't the challenge here, though, simply to write an interpreter/emulator for that exact version of BASIC, rather than actually "porting a game", as such? Given the requirements it seems like attempting to re-

This is very interesting (and as has been pointed out in other comments, not exactly a new idea). I think its proper application, though, is in a tool for practicing reading, not for actually reading tests. One major thing this approach loo

I like the idea of bitcoin, but way too many people (like this article) are just being stupid about it. It's baffling and depressing. Your retirement , really? At worst bitcoin is a speculative balloon. At best it is a novel, useful w

I find it interesting that there are about 50 comments in this thread discussing the best/better ways to model the problem in Scala, and no controversy at all about the Clojure implementation. That's a feature of Clojure, IMO.

Yes and no. The NSA clearly at least makes some attempt to rationalize its actions according to the law and precedent (hence the focus on "metadata", exceptions the administrations has made for "national security", etc).

Those are my ideals - I am a pacifist, I'd much prefer that we wound down this (and most other) military activity. I was simply pointing out how Snowden's actions reflect on his character. Whistleblowing: Revealing that an entit

I'm not saying is a good thing, but that's a policy decision on what the NSA's mission should be . "whistleblowing" that it's happening doesn't really change anything.
