A major client of mine was recently shut down (without notice) because one of our major products is video streaming. Apparently that’s now against the Cloudflare’s TOS (unless, of course, we used CloudFlare’s streaming product at rates that

We transitioned to Fastmail. I don't like the recent development of Australian privacy (i.e., lack of) laws, but I'm willing to give Fastmail a chance to address the issues—and switching is easy enough to allow us to transition to

I really want to like ProtonMail. I do like them, in fact. Unfortunately, their business email offering only has one advantage: the encryption. Every other feature that's important for running a business (IMAP, shared inboxes, automati

I think the point is Rust is a very good language in its own right. The fact it compiles to WASM is a great feather in the cap. They are able to deliver a demo in the browser for something that would normally require downloading and compili

Very few folks don’t run some reverse proxy in front of their application servers (or a whole string of them to load balance), so lack of http/2 on an application server is rarely a dealbreaker for a web framework. I’ll take a solid fr

I was an early investor in Tesla (I cashed out a few years ago). I believe in their mission. I wish their success. But this is hard, simultaneously telling your workforce: 1) We need to you work harder, better, and faster. 2) To h

Hey Chris, glad to hear that is an internal focus! I hope for the sake of the Internet that one day discussions about privacy aren’t needed because it’s the default everywhere. Then everyone wins. :)

Every corporation’s legal core tenet is increasing shareholder value (i.e., make money). I’m more inclined to go with those who at least claim to protect privacy over those who don’t. :)

I strongly suspect this was not a sell-out. I suspect it was more a move to save a good deal of money. Mapbox is very expensive at DDG-scale, and given how lean and efficient they like to run things, I can easily understand this choice. Th
