Enjoying the podcast. I also remember having a ticket for BER a few years ago, ending up not landing there of course. I was there in May and it didn’t feel like a modern airport, it was pleasant but ceilings were low (after listening, no do

Yeah, I kinda agree here. Music licensing is complex and also likely unfamiliar to AT&T’s lawyers. It’s not unusual for signed musicians to be not 100% across their obligations on both the master and publishing sides (not saying that th

Speakers are a personal choice and ATCs aren’t forgiving of poor rooms, but I have SCM50ASLs and like them very much. I also have smaller ATCs for surround and the sound is quite consistent between models.

Dante supports AES67 in a degraded mode (multicast only, 1ms minimum latency, 48kHz only, at least if you're not using Dante Domain Manager).

Interestingly AC3 (with Joint Object Coding) is also what Apple Music uses to deliver Spatial Audio, although the OS makes it difficult to decode to any layout beyond 5.1.

Plenty of duplicate artist names, Spotify artist support will split them into separate artists if you contact them, and now aggregators like DistroKid let you specify the actual artist ID when uploading (at least for some DSPs). It’s just a

Not sure if that’s the question you’re asking but, the Atmos mixes are a completely separate deliverable. They need to be the same length as the original stereo master and obviously shouldn’t deviate so much that they sound like a different

Well, whilst they are hierarchical they’re really only used as unique authority identifier plus local identifier.

OK, perhaps hierarchical wasn't the correct word; it's not hierarchical in the sense of reflecting a (possibly global) domain hierarchy, but it does consist a component that identifies the issuing authority, and a component that i

SIDs are a post-DCE evolution of UUIDs. SIDs differ from UUIDs in that they are hierarchical. In the context of the Windows domain model, they're split into a component which identifies the domain, and a "relative" component

Based on a quick scan through the code, there are a lot of mutexes there, e.g. for reference counts, that could be replaced with atomics.

I have a vague memory of getting the Apple (two-pronged) Swiss and European travel kit plugs mixed up, slightly different tolerances, resulting in one very hard to remove iPhone charger.

I suspect they didn't implement RAII because, in the intended usage, they expect the autorelease pool to be drained every frame.

Yeah, kind of weird there's no smart ARC class, although I suppose you need a way to override it when you need a weak reference. I guess it would be trivial to add one?

As I understand it, Rosetta 2 uses translated versions of the libraries too, but a single native kernel. I’m not sure what Windows does.

Well, they won’t use Samba (which has a very well featured domain controller implementation), because of the GPL. The only other one going around is the one I wrote, but Novell bought that, not Apple. (Apple wasn’t so interested in the ente

I wrote pam_ldap and did the initial port to Darwin. It is probably showing its age - you probably want better integration with GSS-API and also something like CredUI [1] for GUI support. But it's a great deal better than having to mod

According to release notes, it supports 10.12 (with preliminary support for 10.13). That's several releases behind (10.14, 10.15, 11, 12).
