Perhaps the GP meant to identify the two rights as the right to reproduce the composition (mechanical) and the master right. The royalty on streaming services for the former is even smaller than the latter.

I'm kind of two minds here, the terms were clear from the start (it's a rental and the developer program is cheaper than it was at the time of the PowerPC to Intel transition). On the other hand, it did spend a lot of its time sp

Well, Apple has been shipping ARM devices running XNU for the past fourteen years so there’s probably little value in a simulator when they can use real hardware.

The two people I use for engraving/part preparation are both using Dorico. I also use it for composition. It's occasionally a bit sluggish (on a loaded 2019 Mac Pro) but otherwise great.

I haven't read the ruling, but I'm surprised. Surely iOS is only licensed to run on Apple hardware, and any other usage would involve making an unlicensed copy?

I see undocumented instruction extensions as a special case of private API: it buys Apple the freedom to change the underlying implementation in the future. As long as done in a manner that is not anticompetitive, I don't see the probl

The 2018 Mac mini is, from all reports, a pretty decent machine for DAW usage. Many replaced their 2010 Mac Pro rigs with 2018 Mac minis + Thunderbolt chassis.

After Apple bought NeXT, they upgraded the Mach component from 2.5 to 3.0 (from Apple’s MkLinux project). But it was always a hybrid kernel in both NEXTSTEP and macOS.

Agree with all the comments here. Once you get your head around it, it’s fast and capable – until you run into a corner case it doesn’t support (attributed text was the big one for me). Then you end up needing to wrap UIKit, which is straig

I juggled both music and software for many years before deciding to focus on music (almost!) exclusively. This is a somewhat reductive analysis, but in my experience a successful performing or composing career doesn't require concert p
