The desire path was never desirable. You should always stick to the official trail when you are hiking in parks that have them. If the official trail is too wet to walk on, it's too wet to hike that day.

Even if it's not specifically that, if the company thinks you are the best available candidate (by whatever criteria they have) despite your not taking the test, I don't see how it's unethical for them to hire you.

All money has value for one reason: because people think it's valuable. It doesn't matter if it's cigarettes in prison, giant stone discs in Micronesia, or bits on a server owned by your bank.

I think being a programmer messed me up for a while in that it made me overly precise like this. I had to consciously learn to turn it off in normal conversation.

I think the word "masterly" can be taken as praise, but I don't think that's the way Keynes meant it here.

The shareholders are the ones paying the CEOs, though, so it sounds like they are worth it.

This just means that there is more demand for US workers. I'm pretty sure businesses aren't paying them that much more out of charity.

It's generally desired to put up as few artificial features as possible to maintain the natural look of the park. Sometimes it is necessary, of course. The other problem is that many trails are just maintained by a couple of volunteers

So the CEO is the face of the company, and companies are willing to pay a lot for a face that projects a certain image? If that's the case, then couldn't you argue that it's worth a lot for the company to pay to improve its b

Yes, and what I'm saying is that EVs could make this trend even worse.

If they were obviously more popular, that's what we would do. But usually it is all just a big mess of erosion and there isn't any obviously most-popular path.

It's not that they're more popular. It's that the entire forest becomes one big social path devoid of ground cover flora. One purpose of paths is to keep human disturbance to a small, well-defined area.

It happens at the operating system level, but on a desktop computer the hardware is not inexorably tied to the OS. When Windows stops supporting 8.1, you can easily install Linux.

Taken too far this can cause problems. Many have experienced the over-walked nature park where one can't even tell what the official trail is anymore. I have volunteered in public parks, and one of the difficulties is encouraging the u

So shareholders are dumb and execs are overpaid because they are good at duping them out of their money? Wouldn't a company that does NOT overpay their execs outcompete a company that does?

Somebody tell me if I'm wrong, but I'm worried that EVs will follow the same trend as phones, in that the small form-factor models will be phased out by the market due to users' prioritization of long battery life. As someone
