I think it's worth talking about a couple downsides of a search-based interface: Speed: Search-based puts a floor on how fast an interaction can be. "Button Syndrome" interfaces are a slow "hunt and peck" for new

Yeah, I've heard the argument before that SQLite is just fine as a production database. Not arguing against that, just saying that it's not a common choice.

I'm not sure how to parse what the author is saying besides you should be exposing your database directly, which is apparently SQLite. > In the process, it demonstrated a new kind of web app whose entire database was exposed and que

Yes, when I said "production database" I meant a database for a web application. My iPhone running SQLite doesn't relate to Web 3.0.

The author seems to assume that everybody is using SQLite, but SQLite for a production database is an extremely niche choice. Attempting to expose more popular options like PostgreSQL or MySQL as SQLite would be extremely difficult because

What bugs me is "Lord Coldemort & You're a Blizzard Harry" is a single name, which is just awkward. Both are excellent puns and should be two separate snowplows.

But the npm/JS doesn't work that way. NPM will by default create a lockfile that pins the dependencies. `npm install` will install dependencies from the lockfile as long as package.json hasn't been updated, or update the loc

It can't. You can only perform range queries and the like on "sort keys." All sort keys are on the same partition, so has limits on storage size and throughput. Partitioning is very explicit in DynamoDB, for better or for w

DynamoDB runs the partition key through a hash function, so sequential values end up being evenly distributed across partitions.

Re "early days," servers as clients, etc: There are a lot of very real problems with crypto, and the solution always lies in new technologies. Slow settlement and high gas fees? L2 networks. Limited global TPS? More L2 networ

Although Celery itself is distributed, the cron manager (celery-beat) is not and will not coordinate with other nodes. If you have two nodes running celery-beat, you'll get two jobs dispatched every time a cron triggers. imo defeats t

To be fair though, from what I heard AZ outage caused an EC2 API brownout, so people couldn't launch new instances in the other AZs. That put a wrench in a lot of multi-AZ architectures. Not advocating for multi-cloud though...

It sounds like EC2 API is having a brownout due to this, so a lot of people can't failover to a new AZ.

The big problem was that JWTs specifies the signature algorithm alongside the signature. Some naive implementations allowed all supported algorithms by default... one of which is "none". So an attacker was able to create a key w

Unfortunately Mac instances have a minimum billing duration of 24 hours, so even if you only use it 8am-5pm, you'd be billed for 8am-8am. (Not AWS's fault, it's part of the Apple EULA.)
