I’m only an enthusiast, but my understanding is that it’s the black hole’s rotation that causes poles in 3D. The visible accretion disc, I believe lies in the plane in which the black hole rotates.

It’s great that you’re finding a way to pay people quicker that’s less bad than payday loans! What stops employers from paying wages more often right now? When I worked in the US, some places would pay you every two weeks. With instant bank

Not OP; I read it like this: employers get to decide which portion of an employees wages are available for Payflow’s early withdrawal scheme. After that percentage of the wages has been withdrawn through Payflow, the remainder will be paid

Thank you Chris, Nick, Sam and Janelle for putting things so eloquently. Distill is probably my favorite project I've had the fortune to contribute to, and that's largely due to you and everyone else involved. I'll continue t

Out of curiosity I just ran some counts using `jq` on our metadata[0]: We seem to have published 48 articles overall[1], of which 22 list at least one of our editors as an author. 10 of those list an editor as the first author. That leaves

Ah, I think I may see the missed connection! It's like a jigsaw puzzle because archaeologists really do assemble fragments of old scripts. Sometimes the translation efforts can only give you probabilistic answers that in turn influence

Well done, I particularly enjoy the rug-plot layout and the “marginalized” densities actually being in the margin of the diagram. \o/ Aligning axes across plots/small multiples is such an underused technique imho! (Have you consid

We can even engage in idle speculation; maybe the author uses “boat” to make the situation feel easier to grasp. A boat being stuck sounds like it has less consequences than a ship being stuck.

It's funny how there are regional differences in how to avoid the postage fees. I remember friends switching sender and recipient on the letter and then not using any stamps instead. (Not that I ever tried that myself.) I had never hea
