It's nice to develop code with the possibility of plugging in LuaJIT though, and the language is indeed excellent - so much in fact that I can do with ignoring post 5.1 features

Sadly though a huge Lua fan I tend to ignore any advancements not also made in LuaJIT for pragmatic reasons. Full-width 64bit integers would be very nice but LuaJIT cannot do them sadly without boxing or widening its current 64bit tagged

I second the motion in the comments that people should pedantically correct "statistically significant" as "statistically detectable".

This is indeed really great. I love targeting LuaJIT with toy languages, and this is more direct than compiling to Lua.

Right, that's probably saner. Also, more reason to try and get use to Vimperator again.

Very nice. It first struck me as just a curiousity but honestly I would consider using a browser plugin like this that let me edit web forms with something like this, picking up my local ~/.vimrc. That or for the various interactive c

Well I was thinking of little things like Protocol Buffers, which can interoperate with many parent languages, but are so close to data they don't require deep thinking. Edit: RE "Not same level as SQL", I meant in standardiz

Sure I know about DSLs in Lisps and such, but I don't think LISP DSLs are quite on the level of SQL. If everyone creates their own DSLs I don't think it has the same impact.

My person vision is lots of tiny languages that work together in such a way that you don't have to get out of their sweet spot. Of course, I'm not sure if its possible to do this nicely.

That's a lossy short answer. LuaJIT with JIT turned off still runs circles around CPython.

I was just alluding to the fact that garbage collection runtimes are quite less than ideal if another system calls into them sporadically. It just doesn't fit well for software libraries intended to be language-agnostic.

Actually, many people have been waiting long for such a language to come out, and are very excited about Rust for good reasons. Managed languages solve a large set of problems, but introduce two big problems as I see it: - Cause nondetermin

Note that this can be used for static functions, I don't think anyone would find it in an API documentation. The real reason I see for this is reducing voodoo in template libraries, eg forwarding a call T::something() for a generic typ

It's definitely an idea I've thought about a lot (and would gladly work on). I really think strictly using plain-text as the interface to the compiler is a dead-end for language design. Language designers base features around what

Javascript seems to be in some feedback loop where so much is written in Javascript that so many people learn Javascript that it increasingly seems sensible to write more things in Javascript.
