There's a manual for Dune II in there too. I miss having manuals for videogames.

" two sources familiar with the matter said." I don't really get how an article can be built off that. Isn't that completely insubstantial on the face of it? Are we supposed to just trust that some reuters journalist

For me, to get good sleep, I need to have a surprising amount of exercise during the day and have tried hard at something so that I'm mentally tired. That plus not eating any calories at all for the 4 hours before bed and I'm pre

The middle ground that I think helps everyone is, change your api and break compilation. Let devs fix the compile errors and use the api correctly, etc. But don't change the behavior of existing functions with the same signatures. A

What you're saying is totally true and the only pragmatic way to update/release. But it is a shame that if the api update compiles you can't expect things will just work the same way.

Wasn't aware Lichess had journalists doing research to write articles and conduct interviews.

'meh' gets clicks, because it's still amazing to most people. If someone makes a claim that is shocking, it gets clicks. GPP is banking on the underlying report to be non-interpreted, which it looks like was a good bet based

Yeah we never had sets or instructions as a kid (of the 80s). But now doing sets it's pretty relaxing, fun, easy. It's a puzzle. Eventually everything ends up in a heap like other comments mention. I imagine once the heap is b

I left silicon valley because of agile development. Sprinting all the time was the thing that lead to my burnout, and when we finally released our app, the company was pivoting and 'going epic mode'. I quit then. In retrospect i

So does the best guess basically just mean estimating a fairly rich mix at first? Then for tuning are you trying to lean it out to the point you start pinging then back off?

Before the migration from Digg, reddit was full of libertarians. Actually, same with Digg, in 2003.

My recollection of the great migration to reddit was because Digg was crashing. That's probably the only reason Reddit has stayed up as long as it has, it's back end eng has held up. I'm open to being schooled here.

How did you learn how to tune (fuel maps, timing, etc)? I was kind of hoping the speeduino docs would have something in there, alas "it does not cover advanced engine tuning, fuel / ignition strategies etc".

Yeah, and look at how some very simple clustering ML/recommender systems impact social/political dynamics all to keep people engaged on the site and maximize chances to click ads ( see youtube/facebook, etc. ).

Genuine question to all concerned about PE ratios. Why is PE not subject to 'new normals'? A lot of people seem to reject stocks because they're 'expensive' which to me seems like a relative term. There are a lot

What an absurd and loaded commentary. Doesn't any game that involves currency and some kind of economy 'turn players into capitalists'? And couching that as a bad thing implicitly...

Not enemy, adversary. A much softer claim and one I'm pretty sure has been taken for granted for a while.

I think the idea is that you need some way to filter out the bots, so 'worldcoin' or 'worldid' is used to prove 'personhood'.

People wielding AI and destroying humanity is very different from AI itself, being a weird alien intelligence, destroying humanity. Honestly if you have no examples you can't really blame people for not being scared. I have no reason

Again, a given that AI is adversarial. Edit: In addition, as an 1100 elo chess player, I can very easily tell you how a 1600 player is going to beat me. The analogy doesn't hold. I'm in good faith asking how AI could destroy hum

I heard him on Lex too, and it seemed to be just a given that AI is going to be deceptive and want to kill us all. I don't think there was a single example of how that could be accomplished given. I'm open to hearing thoughts on

Every time I read a description of GR I think Robert Anton Wilson was probably inspired by that when he wrote The Illuminatus! Trilogy. Illuminatus is probably easier to understand though. Lots of references to Joyce in Illuminatus also.

This would be my response too, had I not actually played with it. I think this latest iteration with GPT-4 has surprised a lot of people, and the surprise element is driving the discussion. Fearing/Respecting AI is something that is

I don't know, it seemed to me his responses on Lex were very measured and carefully restrained in a lot of places, calculated and vague in others. He doesn't come off as genuine to me at all.
