Indirectly this proves to be a useful discovery mechanism for me - when tools crop up on HN I think ‘hey that’s interesting’, then oftentimes when I read the comments I find there are numerous existing solutions I had never heard of along w

It seems a little hard to believe that other manufacturers had no idea how they did it. If it was so confounding it could quickly resolved by plugging in an analyzer and run a test cycle... Maybe VW isn't the origin of this, they could

Yet they're saying 6000/week by the end of next month. It's a never-ending sprint for the production line workers. Why not aim for sustained 5000/week, increase QA/reduce re-work and go from there? The fact that Mus

The plastic bag jab is an odd thing to include. It really doesn’t fit the narrative they are pushing at all. It’s a single use plastic bag ban, and it was pushed to a public vote by the plastic bag manufacturers themselves as an apparent

If you’re using Javascript or have an embedded JavaScript runtime sure use that. The 1st party bindings are for C, Go and Python; so it a cross-language JSON DSL. And making it a strict DSL has significant advantages.

Isn’t what happens after that condition is detected the critical point? That’s the part that I’d imagine needs to be modified/tweaked as emission standards change.

Great that they fixed the brakes OTA. But how exactly did the inferior braking algorithm get on the Model 3 in the first place? And what are the chances of a regression?

I am using it on Digital Ocean. I have had no issues whatsoever. Not only that, it’s a 1-click application too so I didn’t even have any setup issues. That’s not to say I won’t have trouble of some sort one day - but what software is 100% t

Besides that it could be argued that buying an M3 is not an economic purchase, it’s an emotional one. Presumably you go into it knowing it’ll have higher than average TCO, that it’s not designed as a commuter vehicle, and you accept the cos

I didn’t mean to say LTE is deliberately complex, compared to older specs it’s very simple. I was thinking more of ASN.1 itself which even in later editions added features that only made the parsing and codegen harder, though they made auth

The idea is similar to protocol buffers. Tooling is a significant barrier to entry. - The commercial offerings are very expensive. - it is a little hard to read, but very difficult to write correctly. - it is difficult to parse the spec and

What’s the latency like with H265? H264 has ‘zero latency’ mode apparently - but I’d assume that the more advanced the codecs are the more temporal information is required which would increase latency.
