It’s comparing unassembled assembler to JITed code and compilers that are pulling in precompiled libraries. I feel it needs some kind of normalizing. I get that it is illustrating bloat but it doesn’t really illustrate where that’s coming f

I switched to i3 about 2 months ago. I had some false starts with tiling window managers before but i3 just clicked. It’s very easy to configure. I have a mix of 10 plus terminals, chrome, sublime text, slack and wireshark spread across mul

Despite the change from unfinished rough cut to more dimensionally stable, dried and finished lumber, the sizes are at least standardized by NIST. Still a funny observation!

The best non-Amazon experience I had recently was with Butter Cloth. No sign up, no need to enter my name and address, supports Apple Pay (amongst others). If more companies did this I’d be more inclined to shop around than default to Amaz

Reminds me of Birkenkopf [1] in Stuttgart. “ During the war, 53 Allied bombing missions destroyed over 45% of Stuttgart, and nearly the entire city center. Between 1953 and 1957, 1.5 million cubic meters[1] of rubble were cleared and moved

A mentor often repeated the title of Niklaus Wirth’s 1975 book “Algorithms Plus Data Structures Equals Programs”. This encapsulates it for me and informs my coding everyday. If I find myself having a hard time with complexity, I revisit the

So when a developer can’t pay the tax because they are too busy to help with overhead, they are forced to work on overhead even if they are still busy? Why doesn’t this degenerate into the situation it’s trying to avoid? Can the chips be ca

IMHO editorializing this as a ‘back door’ is inflammatory. Users need to learn to not have any expectation of privacy when using social networks. It extends far beyond PII leaks. Perhaps complaints should be directed at the root of corrupti

Same for me with magazines. I’d read them cover to cover, even Computer Shopper which was mostly ads! It gave great breadth of knowledge and it was genuinely interesting because they had to be informative. I devoured them all. I miss that.

Yeah it worth trying Goo Gone first and reserve this for the really tough adhesives. There can’t be many laptop stickers that can’t be removed with Goo Gone plus patience (which BTW also works wonders for removing road tar from car paint).

No need to do expensive industrial design, tooling to build switches, simpler loom, simpler to assemble etc. It’s a cost cutting exercise (with other advantages) which has become trend. For me cars are like tools, they should be tactile.

Indeed. 2-3 years is short, that way of thinking could discourage doing things right in the first place because ‘it’ll be rewritten it in 2-3 years so it doesn’t matter’.
