Indeed, the allusion to syntax directed editing in the article is due to MPS.

Yes, that's part of the same bug, as I understand it anyway (to be clear: I'm not sure that anyone's claiming that there are problems with Earley's recogniser, which is really the core of his paper). Scott's "SPPF-Style Parsing From Earley

I'm not sure the Earley paper "is full of bugs" - to the best of my knowledge, it has only one bug (albeit a biggy), which is in its description of how to create a parse tree.

There's a big debate to be had about the utility of journals in 2011, but when a Wikipedia editor writes about TOPLAS that "I'm not sure about this journal [TOPLAS], more research would be necessary, it may have a low impact factor as it do

There are various different query APIs available. Google maintains a useful list: http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Maps-API/web/resources-non-google-geocoders One of the major problems is that the use of the data returned by man

darcs user interface is a joy to behold - it's far easier to get up and running than git, and easier on a day-to-day basis. However even on a one man project, I found that darcs performance problems started to bite after a few hundred check

It isn't a goal of Converge to be Pythonic as such (particularly as Python 2.x is a philosophically different beast to Python 1.4/1.5-ish). My impression of Boo is that its macros are a very different kettle of fish to Converge's compile-ti

Interestingly, nonlocal was part of Converge before it was proposed for Python 3000 (see http://tratt.net/laurie/tech_articles/articles/designing_san... ). It doesn't seem sensible to me to imply that every programming language has to have

It's not an issue of libraries - you're clearly right that new languages are likely to have less impressive libraries. It's partly a matter of syntax - frankly, I can't deal with Lisp's syntactic minimalism (my problem, maybe, but there's a

I can only speak from my own experience. If you're genuinely sure you're not in it for the money, you really enjoy the area you're working in, and you're prepared to work in a way you find interesting rather than simply doing what will bump

There are many ways in which academia is non-transparent, but I don't think one journal rejecting double-blind reviewing is a major one. In the areas of computing in which I work not only can I guess who's written a paper (I would estimate

I might be the only person here who disagrees in some way with this. I noticed that myself and other people I know only started developing RSI-type symptoms after computers got "fast enough". By that I mean that before that point there were
