The smaller the project/team, the easier it is to recognize mistakes and change direction. At the federal level, competing interests make that nearly impossible.

You do know that roads crossed state borders before the interstate, right? In truth, for the traffic volume, they were pretty good. That said the states would have evolved them to meet the needs, while the federal government took a more rev

Why is the Democratic Party and President Obama taking heat for this? It is his call. He could stop it if so desired. After all, it is an election year.

Your point is well taken, but if memory serves, the specific technologies listed were developed by private corporations and industry consortiums. Would be interested to see a fact checked history on this, however.

What's the last thing you bought that was manufactured by government. If you think prices are high now, then go look at prices of non subsidized government manufactured products. I think you will change your mind.

On the first, these are cultural problems that are not solvable by politicians without creating worse problems (as evidenced by current events). The second is a misunderstanding of the concept of a republic. Each state has a say. That'

The flight attendant also wedges the door open (and blocks entry/exit with a cart during this time. Yes, they could incapacitate, but it would take time to do this, get the door closed, and dead bolted. One would hope that the commotio

Will Beats be a wholly owned subsidiary or integrated into Apple? I would imagine corporate structure will provide the answers on why Apple made this decision.

This seems reminiscent of the "wolfram language" stuff a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps it's a trend, but I can't shake the feeling like I am seeing a rehash of the 4GL fiasco of the 90s. I have a lot of respect for Chris.

Out of curiosity, would you classify this in the 4GL camp? Not to denigrate the technology and functionality that the Wolfram language is exposing, but it sure sounds a lot like the 4GL pitches from the 90s. Is that a fair comparison?

Water usage should also imply that the water used is not reclaimable. For example, steam from a hydroelectric plant falls back as precipitation. Irrigation water re-enters the water table or streams. For water to be used in a way that is ne

It boils down to what they are selling? Does the product ad say, 1 Gb bandwidth for $XX when use of bandwidth doesn't exceed 20%? Generally, these sort of exceptions are not made clear at the time of purchase. Frankly, if they are sell

Wow. I don't see that at all. You must not use any of the platforms you mentioned. If you look under the hood on OSX, iOS, or Android, they are all composed of smaller single purpose components. If you are arguing that they do not us

When it comes to IT, I can buy it. However, ask yourself how you would run a manufacturing plant when you didn't know when people would be there? Or, how would customer service work if there was no one to answer the phones?

How does it compare to Dart & Harmony (even coffeescript)? I know that is a long answer, but I'd love a bullet point list of how if compares to the other javascript++ languages that have been coming out over the last couple of years.

While you may be able to find attribution of that to some fringe elements of the Republican party, I have not heard Romney or Ryan say anything even close. In fact, they seem to be far more process oriented than the current administration t

The problem is not outsourcing, it's thinking that you can outsource (or delegate) and important task and not pay attention to it's execution. Good management breaks outsourced projects down into replaceable, manageable chunks. This is impo

The truth is, if you love the Internet you had better start fighting to stop these escalations. Otherwise, it will cease to exist. The first time a massive attack causes real fear in western civilization, people will start questioning how
