Right, the problem is that one can't formally describe the environment, and any one thing has to interact with it. So formallness goes right out the window.

It's because epoll === kqueue mostly. Besides kqueue grew from FreeBSD, not OSX. Such ignorance saddens me much more.

You know, in 90s in Russia in IT circles Windows was known as "маздай" which is a transliteration of "must die". Looks like nothing has changed.

Bah. It's #1 one because it's easier than the alternative. But the alternative is also not hard. It's just not worth the effort.

Well while seats do have a passenger name to them, people end up in interesting places on underbooked long flights like over the Atlantic. Cabin crew sometimes gets excited if people move too much. But this is rare.

It's still a context switch per event. Like other people here wrote nowadays one can push some processing into kernel context, but that sort of defeats the purpose of kernel/userland border. One can just write a kmod and be done w

The kernel can't "run a function". It can only wake a thread sleeping on a syscall. This is called blocking IO. The whole point of async is to find a compromise between context switch cost and event buffering and the latency

FWIW (and I do have relevant personal experience) "fixing" is not in the option set. One can only cope. SSRIs, VPA, amphetamines or whatever (including alcohol, THC, DMT and opiates), they just shift the person's perception&#

There is too much variation in ingredients for any sort of formal rules. If you strive for excellence, pasta cooking time is the least of your concerns, selection and knowledge of ingredients is. It gets internalized and feels just like int

nope. airport gets overwhelmed, aircraft get stuck because of processing, airline costs rise, ticket prices rise. it's a single pipeline. every single one bottleneck has to be removed. let's start with TSA.
